I have seen the Teflon bushings after some use, and they shred up and come apart. Not as effective as pressed in bushings.

Nasty-lsx it's not that hard to pull one apart, clean it and put it together. The key is the calibrations and replacing the parts that most people don't do, like the primary shaft bushings and the secondary air valve cam and spring. For these old carbs, an over the counter kit just doesn't have what is needed anymore, and the quality of what is in there isn't good.

Let's see how they hold up to the test of time.:) I don't think they would hood up better then metal.

I should have taken pictures, but I didn't. I don't know how long they were in use, but they were no longer effective. I build about 150 Quadrajets a year, so I see lots of interesting things.

Too bad someone would`nt make a screw in style of a bushing, that would use the same unworn portion of the shaft/base-plate.
Drill, tap and screw them in, a mild locktite to hold them and a slice on each side of the bushing, so they could be screwed out when worn and a new one installed, along with a new throttle shaft.
I think that using that wider portion of the base plate and shaft that, those bushings and shaft would last for a very long time.

Prob not. If i need to redo them i will use brass, or i have a whole sheet of the stuff. Its not like i put even 5k on a year.

I made a tool to bore out the worn bushings, and then inserted bushings I found at my local auto parts store.

I also bought and followed Cliff Ruggles' book on Rochesters - a great book!

Yes now that is the correct tool for doing bushings. The drill bit cliff sells is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Did you turn it on a lathe?

Yep until you gouge out the center bore on the throttle plate and your throttle shaft binds. Then your only option is a new throttle plate.

The correct way is with a back cutting reamer bit.
