I had a 1969 CJ-5 with the factory Buick 225 V-6. 175hp, 3-spd with the Warn overdrive. It would climb a tree. Horrible, tiny 9" drum brakes, loose jeep steering. Pedals come up from the floor. Miserable to drive - I loved it.

Upgrade the brakes to 74 or later Cj5 11" drums, grab the swing pedals while you're at it, change over to a Chevy Saginaw steering box and Chevy tilt steering and it will be WONDERFUL. Plus it's all cheap and easy to do

Yea not crazy about how they did the pedals. I was wondering if they could be converted.

I had a '69 Commando with the V6, at the time (granted 15 years ago) there was a lot of aftermarket stuff out there for it...I even found a set of headers for it...should be a fun project...
ps here's a VIN decoder - the first set of numbers is the model stuff, not the sequential VIN. So it definitely looks to be 62-71

I've seen a 455 Eldorado front end in a Fiero and a built 350 in a Toyota truck; it'll fit.

There have been a few Roadkill Extras that explain the differences in older Jeeps and how to figure out the year and model. Unfortunately, I apparently did not retain a single lick of that info, lol.

Just a small update. After some poking around on some Facebook groups, I believe it to be a 70 model. Also has the 225 v6, as someone stated earlier. I still haven’t seen it in person lol. But I’m off work the first week in December, planning to bring it home then so I can start playing with it.

Apparently, dad got some paperwork with it that he neglected to tell me about, so I’m looking into using that to get my title. Probably get dad to title it in SC and then transfer it here to NC, since SC is a lot more lenient about title stuff. With that being the case, I’m planning out my build. Definitely planning on putting it back on the road. Looks to have stock wheels, with 33’s. Probably going to keep the wheels and drop down to 30-31” AT’s. Get a roll bar, and see if I can track down a soft top. It doesn’t appear to have a heater, but I’d at least like to stay dry. It won’t be a showroom restoration, but will probably end up like my truck. Put it back stock, make it nice, but still use it as intended. As a side note, I’ve never seen locking hubs like these.

Looks like a CJ-5 to me, not 100% sure on the year I'm not a pro jeep guy. I'd bet mid 60s if I had to.
Hell, for $150 that's not bad at all. Looks to be in about the same shape if not better than my CJ-7

I personally had a 350 in an '88 toyota. Had to hack up the radiator support to make room for a radiator, but yeah she fit Anything is possible with some determination

Actually some of those CJs came stock with AMC V8s in them, there should be plenty of room for a 350 in there. My CJ-7 has a ****-ass AMC 4.2L straight 6 which is way longer than a V8 and there's a mile of room under the hood. I guarantee it'll fit no problem. May need to hit up Advance Adapters but there's n shortage of room

Nice Cj-5. I had a 47 willy's for almost 10 yrs I loved the Hurricane 4cyl and that it would go through just about anything. It has now languished in my ex-father in law's yard for the past 3yrs. as I had to get rid of it in my Divorce. My ex got my 47' and the House....
