As of this morning, i have 498mi on the rear end build. So what do I go and do? Start to tear the engine out of it

This 5.3 leaks out of every seal, I’ve been planning this for months. Decided to yank the whole thing and while I’m there, slip a little cam/converter in too.

Service mode is awesome, I wish squares could do this

Nearly rounded off a nut on the y-pipe, thankfully the rest came out without drama

I hate working on something after someone totally incompetent has worked on it. Not a DROP of anti-seize, not a DROP of dielectric grease. Was a huge PITA to get the plug wires off and I destroyed 3 of them. Thank god I didn’t pull the threads out of any of the spark plug holes, they didn’t feel good coming out.

Along with the reseal, I’ll be re-looming the harness as well. All the original stuff is super brittle and just falling apart

Problem is, it needs to come off the road soon too for a couple issues that have crept up and to do the suspension upgrade I've been sitting on for a year

Here's a picture of one of the plugs. It's rusty down in the threads, I'd like to beat whoever did the last tuneup over the head

Also cleaned out the back fender corners where crap always collects

This was JUST the dirt that was inside the bottom of the driver's fender flare

Remember the brittle harness? I pulled these 2 main sections out of their clips on the firewall and WOW. That was an electrical gremlin nightmare in the making. Thankfully none of the wires were chaffed yet

Rigged up something to keep the coolant off the front suspension and brakes

This was about 6pm last night, got the intake off and about ready to put the lift plate on

Didn't realize my lift plate was ONLY for a GenIV. So I had to modify it to clear the cam/oil pressure sensor on the Gen3

Flipped it over, threw the valley cover on and traced it out

All that dirt is why it makes me cringe every time I see a truck with flares on it. I just assume that the truck is roached under the flares and if I was to ever buy one with flares I'd assume I'd have a bunch of rust repair ahead of me. Especially on those trucks you see rolling around on stock wheels/tires and huge flares to where it looks like they could tip over LOL

With the inner fenders out, I think I can reach the bellhousing bolts through the sides. I have a 1.5" bodylift to go on, might go ahead and install that first for more room lol

Ran out of steam about 7:30 last night. I'd hoped to have it out and on the stand at least but just didn't have anything left in me at that point. I'm super sore and still exhausted this morning. Hoping to push through and get it out this evening after work. All I lack is the harness that goes under the front of the oil pan, bungee cord the AC comp and power steering brackets out of the way, pop the fans out (maybe the rad too) and the bellhousing bolts and she's free

Thankfully I've never had any rust in any of the ones I've bought and they've all had flares. I've always taken them off and cleaned/waxed behind and reinstalled cuz I like the look of the flares. Up north I certainly assume that but down here it's not really a problem thankfully

I know on my 04 when I did plugs and wires a few years ago, I was still running the factory ones. I had a heck of a time getting the wires off and there was no dialectic grease used from factory. I was getting a random misfire code and the plug boots had tiny tears in them close to the boot shields.
