Hub cap/trim ring combo

Does anyone have stock hubcaps and trim rings on their wheels, both half and 3/4 ton? I'm wanting to put trim rings on my 3/4 ton but want to see what they look like first. My wheels are stock steelies in the factory white. Thanks

I don't have a picture of it, but we ran the stock white wheels with dog dish caps and trim rings on our '79 Burb for a year or so. Two tone, dark metallic brown and cream tan, looked good. Then we got a set of rallyes like this truck and ran them for a while. Eventually different centers with 3 bar spinners. My Dad grew up in the 50s and loved the look. Truck actually looked cool with them.

Fwiw, the 8 lug trucks never came with trim rings afaik.
Not sure I’ve ever seen that combo in person either.

I tend to agree with you on this! I can't recall seeing a stock 3/4 or 1 ton with anything other than the dog dish caps or full wheelcovers.
I think the OBS trucks are the first ones to have trim rings and center caps for 8 lug models. Then the NBS models were the first ones to have aluminum wheels optional for 8 lug models. Pics attached.....

I will also add that both these newer wheels will fit square body trucks, they're 16". The newer aluminum wheels through 2010 will fit the old style 8 lug pattern (6.5" spacing). 2011 and newer applications are a different, metric pattern and these wheels will require adapters.

True, although those PYO wheels appear to have a bit more positive offset than the OE steel wheels of the 70s-80s. Although have seen them on enough squares to know they apparently work.
Another solid, cheap option and larger/wider rims are the 17x8 alloy wheels off of 3rd Gen Dodge 8 lug trucks. (And every other newer Dodge/ram wheel as they’re still 8x6.5 for srw HD rams, although Ram went to a larger drw bolt pattern in recent years, 2019 maybe).
I’ve put those nice 5 spoke aluminum Dodge wheels on a couple Chebbies that had the old 16x6.5 PYO aluminum rims. GM lug nuts and center caps from the GMT 400/800/900 eras also fit right on them Dodge rims.

I love the aluminum wheel that came on the GMT800 trucks, that's what came on my Duramax in '05.

A buddy of mine even runs them on his classic F-250, he did have to machine out the center hole to clear the hubs though.

I would run the slot mags I have, on my crew cab, but 16.5 tires are kinda expensive....
Can a 16.5 aluminum wheel be turned down to 16" or will that ruin them?

It's a no go... Has more to do with the shape and angle of the bead than anything, when I worked in tire shops the 16.5's were always a PIA to seat the beads and are quick to lose the bead if not aired up enough because most 16.5's dont have the safety bead bump to reduce the chance of them coming unseated.

16.5's always seemed like an old bastardized way to have additional load rating...

Actually I have a set of the late square body 16" full wheelcovers, that came off my '90 R2500 Burb. I was restoring them, so it went around with nekkid steel wheels for a while. My plan was to put the aluminum wheels on it, but tire prices, and life in general, had other plans.....
