Little busy with all the horizontal bars. I would 86 the brush guard and just put an OEM Bowtie on the tube grill.
Well I gotcha on that one. Shes a GMC. Lol

I guess it would help if I read it closer. Back in the early 90's I painted my OEM GMC grill black with my grill guard. On my current truck, I did gun metal gray. Either one would make the brush guard stand out more.

I like the current set up fine, it's certainly unique. Maybe a little busy and maybe a little bright but it's a one-off so I dig it.

Seems that is extremely difficult if not near impossible for a squarebody pickup. And you've done it.
I couldnt change it for nothin.

Ol' Stacy just got some engine upgrades.
New distributor, new passenger side exhaust manifold, new carburetor and cheapo air breather and redid some of the wiring.

The old carburetor had the electric choke disconnected. Boy it's nice for this truck to start right up in the morning!

As far as I know, it's a stock setup. If it's aftermarket at all, it would have been from two owners ago.

It only sounds that good on cold mornings, lol. I just sit outside drinking my coffee and listen to it warming up.

Nice deep tone. It sounds like it might have a cam too.

Welcome. Nice looking truck, and quite a find these days I would get rid of the tube grille and go back stock, to show off the true GMC pedigree.

I'm up your way all the time in my Pilot Car business. With I-35 under construction so much of the time, we see a lot of the backroads either side of the speedway.

Thanks! I'm considering a stock grille if I can find one cheaply. Not sure if I'm committed to the idea or not. The tube grille is growing on me.

Yep, sounds like you've run all over my stomping grounds. It ain't a glamorous part of Oklahoma, but I like it here. There are still a lot of good folk in this neck of the woods.

I don't think it's a cam, pretty sure the choke could use an adjustment. It starts out nice and smooth cold start then start loping. A sign of very rich. I'd imagine as soon as the choke comes off it smoothes back out.

Next step on the truck is a new (old) and improved tool box. The new box is period correct and came off of an oilfield truck, which my grandpa bought and used around the farm for a number of years. It's been color matched to two different trucks before this one! It came from the factory white before it got painted a maroon/burgundy color. Then it was painted a metallic brown to match my grandpa's farm truck.

I've taken it down to bare metal in lots of places, grinding out rust. I didn't get a picture of it ground down to bare metal entirely. Only the ones working on surface rust. I also welded it back together around the hinge and worked on the latch mechanism.

More pics to come tomorrow.
