i,m very surprised. as a bodyman and resto guru. i would have never expected this to look as good as it does using these techniques. i started reading the post expecting a few chuckles by the time i got to the finished result. ever hear the old saying: dont judge a book by its cover? this looks 100% better than i thought it would. as a body man i do have to ask why you didnt use a spot putty, or finishing putty to finalize your repair area? any particular reason? looks really good though.

I tried this method a few years ago, I used 3M Polyester Glaze because it's what was handy at the time. I won't say the end result was better, but I can say the process was faster. It seems to hold up well considering my hasty experimental repair. It will be interesting to see how the foam/epoxy method holds up.

Did you use bed liner in order to hide the old texturing of the vinyl? In thinking of you didn't use bed liner the repair areas would be extremely noticeable. Also you said you used krylon; do you think an interior and vinyl paint would adhere to the bed liner? I only say this because I could match an original interior paint color better.

Yea, the bedliner was purely for hiding the grain of the original vinyl and giving it some texture.

I would think interior and vinyl paint would stick to bedliner just fine, but I would definitely try it out on a scrap piece first.

They make diy tintable bedliner. I used the raptor liner before. However you would want to have other applications for it as well. Its about $100 and it would not take much to do the dash pad.

Alright I probably will try it our on a scrap piece first. That tintable bed liner is a nice idea but definitely more money than I'm willing to spend.

What about these "dash covers". Are they junk?

The reason for the spray can bed liner is because the texture is so fine, it is actually horrible as a bed liner. Actual bed liner would be way to thick and lumpy.

The plastic ones? I think so, but some people are happy with how they look.
