How to make a 5.3 less ugly?

Prepping for my swap I came across this (link below) review/comparison of the stock manifolds as well as aftermarket. I worry about affecting the airflow by doing the plastic welding that guy did. Not dissing it, but I wonder if it affected the output...by "welding" only on the outside your creating more ridges on the inside.

Someone would have to test the manifold before modification and then after, not changing anything and even then, it's still going to be questionable. lol
