Are the 700r4s built for the 6.2 diesels any different than the ones used for Gas?
That was one thing I am curious about... Mine is the 1982 Chevrolet k10 first year for 6.2 diesel and 700r4.

trying to find out production year.
Might be a different stall speed convertor... ?

When I found it was diesel factory + First year I went to diesel.

YES the converters are different for gas and diesel. The gas can prolly do ok with the diesel converter, but not as well the other way around. The diesel really needs the lower stall to get it to go.

I just pulled the 6.2 diesel and trans from my 85. It's a 700r4, but what is the wire connector on the drivers side for? My trans tag number is 5MH073B.

The plugs are for your TC lockup. Ie. The overdrive function of the transmission.

Still, have to go out later to find that Serial ID on the side of the block. Here.

I've never seen a tag like this on a 700r4. I could only assume that must be a factory reman tag. It does look like a factory type tag used on Th350's and Th400's but 700r4 didn't have those to the best of my knowledge. Never seen a green one that I recall either. Maybe even aftermarket for warranty purpose.

I was told on the Dieselplace forums that it must of been a Rebuilders Tag... Update. I found out that this Gas Drivetrain they swapped out for the diesel could of been from an 81-82 as well because that's what the Transmission from a friend who worked at GM had said its got an 1982 Serial date and supposably from a Gas.

Therefore i have been looking almost 6 months for a Diesel one. No Major differences besides the Diesels 700r4s had a few more "Bands" ? For MPG and there own Governor and Tq Converter. At the point now about calling up a junkyard from car-part.com and buying one from them, By the time i convert this gas one i have it'll be over $350 anyway when for the extra $200 i can get a proper diesel.
