Got another question for all you smart people..its probably been asked before but since I am new to this forum.. My GF and I love to go camping.. we are considering, among other options, a camper.. My truck is an official High serra 15 from 1978. Is this considered a heavy half?
Thanks

Dave

I'd say likely not. High Sierra is just the trim level, like Scottsdale or Silverado in a Chevy. The 15 is like 10 to a Chevy. So you've got a C15 comparable to a C10 Chevy. It's not all that hard to change though. You could measure you rear leafs and might find that they are the 52in springs. You could always add air bags too. Are you considering a slide in camper, a camper shell or for towing a trailer?

I guess I should have read your entire reply.. sorry.. her and I are considering something small, weather its a 10-13' pull trailer or a small camper, 8' or less.. were not sure.. I guess whatever we can get the best deal on.. I suggested a used camper, not really knowing if I could carry one in my truck.. what are your suggestions?

thanks again

Dave

Yea, those old half ton Chevys will handle a camper just fine. Just gotta be careful about going over your GVWR. They're really starting to crack down on that around here.

So an 8' camper would be no problem? I am guessing the weight around 1300 to 1500 lbs..

That's no problem at all, the average family sedan would even handle that without trouble.

Yep, like Bucket said, not a problem. Even a 16 footer or bigger would probably be alright. Campers are pretty light.

I think he might be talking about a slide in camper, not a shell topper, or camp trailer. How many ammeneties do you need or like to have when you camp? Have you ever considered a tear drop? Those are pretty cool for a couple who actually likes to camp and not have the comforts of home, but you do get all the basics for cooking, food storage and sleeping.

You may be right. When I think of an 8 foot camper, I think of a little pop-up travel trailer.

Ohhh...yea, I was thinking of a pop-up camper. Do they still make slide-in campers?
