Very true. But its something I didnt want to learn. But I guess Im learning more about Holley's than I ever though I needed or wanted to know. This truck shouldnt have this Holley as a DD or cruiser. I dont know how some of you'll do it. Its a pain in the ass. I want my q-jet back. haha. (with the float adjusted correctly and down a couple of metering rod sizes).


It's easy, but tedious. That's why I'm swapping to an LS lol.

Once you get it tuned, it'll be fine for years lol. I tell everyone frustrated with carbs, just think, your grandma didn't fiddle with all that ********, she hoped in her Buick, kicked the gas twice, and drove wherever she was going, 365 days a year lol.

It will be fine once the qjet rebuilder fixes their mistakes.

Everyone, DO NOT TRASH Carbs. Don't make a damn what condition they're in. You never know what someone may need it

I threw away a Holley once that was on an '81 T/A with a Pontiac 406 in it.
I hated that piece of ****, -the carb- it was never anything but trouble for me and was on the car when I bought it. The T/A was hot.
I don't remember what carb it was, exactly, but it tried catching fire again cruisin down Route 66 one night and died at the light. I was pretty young..
You could tell..it was fiddin to burst into flames...again.:eek: it LIKED catching fire!
Well, I lost that $20 race and pushed my Trans Am into the 7-11 where I proceeded to take it off and promptly throw it in the trash can. We were gonna win too...

I did someone a favor, trust me. Nobody needs a carb THAT BAD.

I got a ride home and swapped in the old standby 1406. We didn't do much racin after that....

Sad.Face. :(

P.S. Pontiac 400s are junk. REALLY hard to keep cool!

Well, I can totally see why someone would get a 4160 or 4170. If every thing is adjustable, and it has a choke on it, I can see it being very streetable. And yes, they are super simple carbs. As long as you understand basic carb theory, tuning one isnt too bad. They are just a different breed, and I never cared to learn anything about them. And now that I do know some things about them, they arent all that bad.

Im still tinkering a little bit with it. Ive adjusted the mixture screws and getting less lean backfires. It still is a little hesitant, and without a choke it runs like **** when its cold. But it will do me till my carb comes back. Then as suggested, its getting sold the F off to someone else that wants this carb. At least now I feel like I can help someone that has some Holley trouble later on.
