IMO they put extra stress on the sheet metal on the body mounting points.

I look at it like this, would you install 3" wheel spacers behind your wheels? Extra length is extra stress and torque on the body mounts, bolts and surrounding areas. I think that extra stress is best left for suspension add ons to handle.

Also check you're local laws, they are illegal to use in some places.

Good Points. More stress on the sheet metal is likely why I felt like I was driving a flimsy rig that time. And I forgot about some states being illegal.

Im looking to get a 77 K10 shortbox Chevy. It has a small lift (2"?) and was wondering if 35x12.5-15 tires would fit without trimming...

Maybe to crawl the mall, but the minute you flex it, you're gonna be hitting tires.

I never knew they were illegal anywhere, just illegal to use over a 3inch lift block.

The solution to body weakness is thicker plates on top of them to avoid punch thru.

As far as torque, if you flex it up it's gonna add torque and stress, but any other time, what kinda torque do you have on a body? Like wind drag? That would be all I can think of besides the twisting from wheeling and flexin.

Front end collisions have sheared the body of vehicles right off the chassis with bodylifts. There was a young guy on jeepinwv who died a few years ago in an accident like that.

I only had to put a 1.5" lift on my C20 to fit 33.6" tires. For a stock 4x4 I'd think it would be less.

I've fit 32's on stock 1/2 tons with no problems before. Amd this was the lightest duty 1/2 ton you could get in 1987.

I'd say if you got a 2" body and 2" susp. lift, you should be looking at 35's

My 87 R10, with 32's front and 33's rear.

no lift and 31"s after all

so here's what happened, was talkin to a friend of mine who's got a 4runner and he brings up how he's got a good set of 31"s AND how he also happened to be a little short on cash and so, i bought the tires for 300. cool thing is i think truck looks pretty cool, ive got 15"rallys with rings and caps, and he sweetened the deal with a set of headers, edlebrock carb, valve covers and a chrome air cleaner housing with a brand new air cleaner in it, i couldn't turn him down. i will load a pic of my truck when i can get to a real computer
