How do I open hood?

When I pulled the front clip off my parts truck, I closed the hood after removing the release cable. Now I am trying to take the the clip apart and can’t get the hood open. The grill is foo but I can’t see any way to release the latch.

Pretty sure on that age, you just pull the handle in the grill. I have a front clip like that on the ground at my place. I just pull the handle.

You may have to crawl under it (pretend your an engine, haha), and use a small flat tip screw driver to push the latch over so it pops up. Might need someone on the outside pushing and pulling while your underneath.

If it is the model that uses a hood release cable, you have to pull on the lever that the cable would have hooked to in order to release the first part of it. With the grill off you should be able to look up in there and see where that is

This shows where the cable attaches to the release lever, so that's the area that you have to hunt and poke for.

'77 was the first year it was available as an option. The safety catch is separate from the hood latch itself.

Yeah, this one had the inside latch. Is it the part that sticks up what I have to push? Its been a couple of years since I took it apart and I forget where the cable attached. There's very little room to get in there, even with the grill off. I tried going in from the engine side but couldn't get to the latch from that side either. I'll try to find something thin to slip in from the front and try to push that upright piece over.

The cable is visible through the hole. You have to pull the lever that the cable attaches to.

If I remember, I can get a specific picture when it's light out in the AM. That one I posted is just cropped from one of my underhood pictures.

Yeah, it is a nice clean clip. I won't be able to get back to it until the first of the week. I'll see if I can get something in there to activate the lever then. I guess I'll be sure to attach some type of cable to the latch if I ever do this again.
