How do I know if I have HEI, and if I don't have it, should I upgrade

Not sure if you put the wrong picture up, but that there is your basic GM HEI, fat cap with the coil on top. Aftermarket wires without the knobs on top to fit in the stock plastic hold down that is missing also.

I believe he should do an experiment. If the shock he gets feels like 18,000 volts it's probably points. If it feels more like 40,000 volts he definitely has HEI.
