Noob question.

I bought a set from a guy who says they were bought for a 350. I see Hooker has many different models. Other than the super comp badge I see no markings.

How do I know what model they really are?
How do I tell what shape copper gaskets I need?
How do I know what collectors??? I need? Is there a gasket for them?
Is there a flange deal I need to have?

I know I'll need the spacer and have been told how to cut my AC/power steering pump bracket so it'll work, but the rest I'm at a loss...TIA

Got pictures?

Super comps probably have a 3in collector with standard 3-bolt flanges. The regular comps have 2.5in collectors. Just match the gaskets to the shape of the flanges.

2131 8 06

This is the part number stamped on them both.

Research shows a nova or camaro up to '74 but will they work on my truck too???

They should fit. With big blocks, I've found that Nova style headers fit really well actually. They tuck up in nicer. I did find that the left engine mount needed slightly notched and the shift linkage needed "tweaked" and re-adjusted.

Small block headers should fit similar.

Ok, I'll take your word for it.

I've wire wheeled off all the old paint, ordered my copper gaskets and reducers....now I'll paint them with rattle can VHT brand header ceramic paint (good up to 2000F)....1 can per header.

Found this on Summit's website for Hooker P/N 2131:

Super Comp Headers
265-400 Small Block Chevy
1967-69 Chevy Camaro/Pontiac Firebird
1968-74 Chevy II/Nova
1.750" x 30" Primary Tubes
3" x 10" Collector

I'd be surprised if they fit a 73-87 truck, but you never know. Also, the 1-3/4" primary tubes are way big for a street 350, if that's what you have.

If big block Nova headers fit the trucks, I'd be very surprised if the small block headers didn't.

You may be right, I once had some 67-69 Camaro 3/4 length headers on a 69 C10. No interference problems at all. May try some again when I get my 355 installed. I'm not real big on headers hanging down below the frame.

That's what I like about the Nova/Camaro headers I put on my C10, they tuck up inside the frame very well and they hug the block and trans a little more too. It made it very easy to run my own exhaust and it runs above the trans crossmember. They are full length headers too.

EPIC FAIL!

Removed plugs, wires, bumper stop bracket, support rod from starter to transfer case, dipstick tube, starter and front drive shaft. Also cut back exhaust pipe to make room...fit like a glove...ON A F**KING FOOT!

All that was in the way was an engine and a frame and whether I came down from the top or up from the bottom it wasn't happening.

Well I guess that answers that question. Now I'll have to try a Hooker Super Comp 2453 as it says they fit:

265-400 Chevy Small Block V8,
1969-91 Blazer, Suburban, Jimmy, Yukon 2DR 4WD 1963-87 1/2, 3/4, & 1 Ton Truck 4WD

Interesting.

Did you only try the passenger side? Are your engine mounts sagging much? Reason I ask is because I had one hell of a time installing the passenger side header on the 350 in my Burb. And those headers were even meant for the truck. If it were any closer, I would have had to loosen the engine mounts and jack the engine up to get the header in. The driver side header went in easier.

I love reading about dudes fighting with headers almost as much as I love fighting them myself.
My $0.02 is to unbolt the engine mounts and jack on the balancer. One could get even more wiggle room by removing the trans crossmember.

Remember kids, safety first.
