But he has a friend who knows diesels, Keith. He'll get to the bottom of this and let us know I hope.
Any idea what they'd be tied to?
I ask because I have a base model 90 suburban with a ornament, and I have a fully optioned 89 suburban that doesn't have ornament?
Interiors are identical as far as I can tell.
It must be some kind of trim?
Both Silverados

I'll have to check my 2 suburbans later....Silverado trim level (YE9) and/or two tone paint job (ZY5 specifically).
Also on diesel models.

Forgetting to mention he took place in the GM Diesel Training Programs in the late-70s and 80s.
There is a guy in the FB Diesel group who was an Engineer of the 6.2L Diesels. Plus It's important to me that i know if mine came factory or not with the Hood Ornament.
.
My Good friend Michael McGrew says... "All GM pickups, suburban's half, 3/4 and 1 tons got the hood ornament and side badges and the 6.2 Litre on tailgates and rear doors the emblems were part of the diesel package even the custom and custom deluxe got the diesel emblems when the truck is ordered with a diesel engine"
1978-1981 half-ton pickups ordered with the Oldsmobile diesel got the diesel emblems no matter what the trim package was.
So then, that settles it did.so - post #3.

6.2 but no badge
Right. They were the exception to the rules in a lot of ways.
