Thanks for the info, but that raises another question. Why did GM change from "K" & "C" to "R" & "V"? Confusing and my initials are RV. Also a recreational vehicle is an RV. It doesn't look like the actual truck changed. I guess this is just a rant. haha
In 1987 they changed to "R" &"V"
How many times I have to tell people it's really a V10. They tell me Chevy never made V10 engine in 87. OK.
Well, technically they are correct. GMC made a V1500 truck, I don't know if Chevy called it a 10 or a 1500. But they surely didn't build a V10 Engine.

Owning a rare 1987 squarebody 1500 pickup truck with tbi fuel injection would be dope af, too.

That’s cool! Bulletproof big block trans in it! I bet not many little shorty half tons were specd with the 3 speed auto in 87.

Here’s one you guys might like. I saw this in the parking lot on a big job a few years ago. It’s a double cab, short bed, complete Duramax swapped 86. They swapped the entire frame out with the 2500HD along with the interior. He said it was 550hp with 1100lbs/ft torque.

I totally agree. Make that truck and make a short bed single cab with an LT4. I have toyed with the idea of an LS3 6-speed in mine.

For me, limiting my response to stock production vehicles:
Depending upon the needs of the day:
1991 V3500 Crew Cab, SRW, 454, 4L80E (Saw one listed recently on eBay for $115k)
or
1991 V2500 Suburban, 350, 4L80E, barn doors.

Of course love the Blazers/Jimmys too. Pick your favorite year, '87-'91.
I'm also really partial to the look of the 1981-82 grill / front ends.

I gave up my '91 GMC Sierra for an '87 Silverado. I'm glad to have found a nice original one which is what I wanted.

That's a very clean interior. I was asking about the collumn, because I've never seen a tilt collumn in a factory manual equipped square.
My 79 C20 is a manual with tilt. It has been difficult sourcing all the correct parts to rebuild. 400k miles of log woods have not been that forgiving on dad's truck. Fortunately I have the column ready to install, along with another pedal assembly & brake booster, as all that stuff bolts to the firewall in the same spot.

I think Cummins swaps are universally accepted by many because of the massive aftermarket support. Cummins also is not really exclusive to any of the big three, it merely supplies engines via contract. People often erroneously claim that Ford owns them. This is not true. It has never been true, but yet smooth brains argue with me anyway everytime this subject comes up.

Since Cummins isn't a really a Mopar or Ford owned engine, most GM guys don't find it sinful to use it. A Powerstroke swap would probably ruffle some feathers though, even though we could argue that it's technically a Navistar engine, not a Ford.
It's not uncommon to find GM part #s on those "Power Stroke" engines. Isuzu has designed the injection on many of the diesels in use & guess who owns Isuzu... Ford covers the GM #s so they can't be seen.
