Hey I'm new here and I've read other post before about different things I've done to my 85 k10 Outdoormans package truck but the other day I was driving and it got dark in the evening and I pulled the knob switch on the dash to cut my low beam lights on and they would not come on. So I got back to the house and was messing with the high beam/ wiper/ turn signal switch and I found that I can cut my high beams on and all four lights work. But now the high beams won't cut off to low. And if I pull the lights knob on the dash its always high beam now. I need to figure out how to fix it cause my truck is due for an inspection. Thanks in advance for any help.

Most likely a bad dimmer switch.

What happens if you tilt the column?

Good point. If you don't feel the lever is engaging the dimmer switch correctly, if it feels like there is play or the action is soft or not what it should be, tilting the column down might help it work better, I have seen that myself. You caouls actually look down under the column on the driver's side at the white switch and see if the push rod is engaged with it, that is if you remove that lower panel off the dash under the column.

I tried what driver and 89 suggested about tilting the column but it didn't work. How hard is it to take apart the column and fix it on my own?

Takign apart a column isnt hard, just needs a few special tools, like a Puller for the wheel, and a compressor for the lock ring. Then you go from there.
But im unsure of what you would have to fix in yours.

Thats why its nice to have a non-tilt. No moving parts to pinch something.
And hi/low is on the floor, if you want to convert, ask bucket.

Damn. I don't think I have a puller. I did, however, notice a crack in the plastic cover going from the lever's (on the left) opening down to under the column. Could that be part of the problem?

You shouldn't need to take column apart to repair the switch. It's mounted on top of the column under the dash. Remove cover under column and disconnect the gear selector indicator. Remove the two bolts that hold the column up. Lower the column to access the hi/low beam headlight switch.
