PSA! look under those thick bed mats every so often. The two most forward bed bolts where gone. Here is what was in one of the holes. This is what a 38 year old bed bolt looks like when not inspected. Well after a short drive, this was not the rattle I was hearing. Still a good thing to find and take care of.

Well I would have put money on that was the rattle. It wasn't! it's still there. Somewhere out back either cab back, bed or something in-between. Nothing loose that I can see or find. Damn it!

Check rear shock mount studs to frame. That was the source of my rattles that I couldn't locate. In my case the rear shocks were froze-up/locked-up, causing the studs to move around in the frame hole.

I think you could hand forge one that was straighter.

Try only latching your tailgate on the first catch. Our '76 shop truck squeaks like a **** with the tailgate all the way closed. Push it in just on the first catch and it's quiet

Nope, everything's there. It might be the new/dry links

Reminds me. I need some for the 77, but it doesn’t rattle…
Another plus of that ole brown truck being a truck camper truck. The tailgate probably spent 35 years leaning up against a wall somewhere. It’s a beauty. Even the handle isn’t bent lol.
