Hello Guys,

I have an '85 K2500 4x4 and I just replaced my leaking power steering pump with a rebuilt cardone. I also changed the high pressure hose After doing the proper bleeding routine I started it up and have no power steering at low rpm but have it at high rpm.

I've contacted cardone and they are telling me it is a stuck or bad pressure regulating valve, so I swapped it and nothing changed. Then they told me to gently tap the back of it with a rubber mallet, but that did nothing either.

Do I have a bad pump? Should I just swap it out with another rebuild? It is almost impossible to turn the wheel at low rpm, almost like somthing is in a bind. The steering worked perfectly before I changed the pump, just leaked.

THANKS

You need to try another pump, it's not uncommon to get a bad one.

I've had several bad pumps new. I started ordering the oldsmobile diesel car pumps and changing them over in my housing. Seemed to make more pressure and easier steering

So I guess I'm just screwed. It's not the effort it takes to change it out, but the time is tough to find.

Thanks guys.

Cardone is autozone right? Thats what I have in my truck.

If I try and coast and turn at the same time I dont have power steering, its just pure junk ass ****. The original I replaced would turn the wheels at idle with no effort.

Cardone is from Carquest. I bought another one, installed it and it works now.

Jesus that's amazing how many bad ones are being sold. Definitely got to keep this in mind and shop for better quality for this part.

WOA guys ALL parts houses sell Cardone. They are just a rebuilding company. ALl of the core items i take off of engines i tear down at work go to Cardone to be rebuilt and sent out to all of the major parts houses across the USA.

So does anyone know if you can use a pump from a 3500 on a 2500 i keep blowing up my pumps I'm on number 6 in 5 years all warranted by o'Rielys. but I"m looking into running larger tires. whats my best option? also I've replaced the entire system so far pump, hoses, and steering box. I'm running a 5.7 tbi on a 1989 v2500 4x4 suburban.
