I want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions, I'm not sure when I'll get back to it with the cold weather setting it, but I'll update what I find when I do. Thanks again

Ok one more question, while researching the fuel in the oil issue I've read that a torn or damaged fuel pump diaphragm will pump gas into the crank. Can it do this and still pump enough to the carb to run the motor? and if it's damaged will it syphon fuel out of the tank until the tank is empty? Just trying to figure out how so much gas ended up in the base, it couldn't have all come from the carb unless that could be somehow syphoning gas too.
I'll get out there today and check the oil level. I cranked it over quit a bit while the plugs were out so if its overfilled I might have a problem there too.

Well I changed the starter and ran a new ground to the block and it turns over like it should. I figured I'd change out the plugs and wires while I was under the hood. Fired right up and ran pretty damn nice once it warmed up (no choke)..
Thanks again to everyone who helped me out!!

i would check fuel pump for a bad diaphram, letting gas into oil? but if you find gas in the cylinders , i would say float stuck in carb, dumping fuel in the engine, hydro locking the engine> pull the plugs ,dont try to start it with plugs

yes, very common. engine will run and pump will fill crank with gas. catastropic damage WILL occur if not fixed. if truck is parked nose down hill, it will have same effect.
