882 heads have 64cc chambers or something like that? Just looks a little funny brand new rockers and well used heads.

Yep your correct, it was 202 that had 64cc chambers, that's one of the reasons everybody wants them, that and the bigger valves.

v2500burb, I don't know that much about Vortec heads. I'm pretty sure they are a direct bolt on, but you have to get a Vortec intake, because I think the heads are milled at a different angle. I might be wrong, I would check with Bucket, or Retro, someone like that would know better than I.

FYI Valve seals can be done with the engine in the truck without removing the heads. Cost is small for the parts.

How do you get the spring compressor on?
Is it a special tool?
How do you keep the valves from slipping into the cylinder?
TDC each cylinder?
I'd like to know how?

Vortec heads need a different intake because the ports are taller and the bolt pattern is different.

You can keep the valve from falling in either by putting rope in there and raising to TDC, or you can hook air pressure to it. I don't particularly trust either method.

I've done valve springs on my Grand Prix with the compressed air method... Holds 'em up pretty well, but you have to be careful. I'm not sure how much pressure it would take to overcome the air.

I'm going to ask the dumb question. How do i tell what heads are 882's and what heads are 202's.

882 is the last three digits of the casting number on the heads in question. "202" is actually 2.02, as in the intake valve size. 882's used the common 1.94 intake valves. 2.02 was used in some of the earlier performance heads (known as camel humps or double humps because of the casting mark on the cylinder head) as well as a few versions in the late 60's and VERY early 70's. 882's have been called "the best of the smog heads".

There is a tool you use to push down the spring to remove the keepers.

Top dead the cylinder and use compressed air or some rope into the cylinder to hold the valve in place.
