Header swap begins.

Update:
Very busy day and I'm exhausted..yuk yuk...
Exhausted...get it?
Oh, nevermind....
Anywho...
Started out this morning going to local autoparts store. They had 1 50" spool of header wrap and 4 stainless zip ties. That would do my riding mower. They had one 2-1/2" muffler clamp. That was a waste.
Next stop, hardware store to pick up bolts for header and collector flanges. That was a bit expensive for a handful of bolts...sheesh.
Next stop, Summit, for the header wrap kit and to check out the discount racks. Believe it or not they had a power steering pump bracket kit made for exactly what I'm doing for $45.00. Kewl! And they had more than one 2-1/2" muffler clamp. Double kewlness.
Got home and got both exhausts on the ground in about 20 minutes. Each muffler had holes and so did 1 tail pipe. Wife complains, it sounds like a tug boat and I keep threatening to "Nately Wood" her butt.
Brute forced the passenger manifold out and the stove was barely hanging on by 1 rivet, which gave up when tossed to the ground. No gasket between block and manifold. That doesn't seem right. Oh well.
Then the wrap kit was opened and the fun began (not). 4 hours later the passenger header was wrapped and I was ready to pack it full of pyrodex and light it. Holy krap!! It's been a long time since I itched like that. That fiberglass was all over me and I had used wster as directed. Oh, I was miserable from my belt, up. And all I could think of was "don't touch anything." "Pee yourself if you have to, but dear Gussy, don't touch anything!"
On to the driver's and 3-1/2 hours later, it's done.
By then, I use to the itching enuf to drop the pass header in and bolt it up. Screw plugs back in and fired it up just enuf to pull under the carport...it's supposed to monsoon for the next 2 days. This has been the wettest summer I can ever remember...sure glad J. Kerri is taking care of that. Maybe I can get the other side done tomorrow if I wear my floaties. We'll see.

So, here's a slick trick I stumbled onto out of "itch relief" desperation.
It was 80°+ yesterday and sweating while working with that fiberglass wrap, just made things worse.
After taking a shower, I still felt like ripping my flesh off.
I was trying to think of something that could snag those tiny fibers and drag them out of me. Then it hit me..micro fiber rag. Those things snag on everything. Fortunately I have a few. I took one to my arms and belly and within a few strokes, I could tell it was working, thank goodness. Otherwise it was going to be a miserable night trying to sleep. A few more rub downs and all was good. Only had a couple that just wasn't giving up. I can live with that.

Nice job with the wrap. I'm on the Xweb forum and there has been a lot of discussion about wraps holding moisture and causing premature rusting
on headers. I had mine done in Cermachrome. Maybe keep an eye on that if you get much wet weather down the road. Here's the ride that header is on.

Looks good so far.

The itching is just one of the reasons that I opted to not use it.
I still have some rolls of that stuff sitting on the shelf.

I am planning on using that kind of wrap on an MGB to avoid melting the floor mats and seat (the pipe passes under the floor with less than an inch of clearance). Unfortunately there is no Summit outlet near me so I'll have to make do with whatever I can get from the local parts stores. However after reading this thread, disposable gloves will certainly be on the shopping list...

Headers and all pipes are stainless. Mufflers will rust but those are easily replaced.
Now that I've taken a closer look at the pics, yep, stainless. :) Actually my system is stainless as well. the cermachrome helps with heat radiation.

Yep. Everytime I washed up, it was all cold. Even the shower was cold.

Update:
Driver header is in.
I had a few other things that demanded my attention so it did not get as far as I would of liked to.
Tubes were arranged and new hangers are in the works. Hopefully it won't rain much tomorrow.

Fired it up this morning for first heat cycle.
Exhaust system consists of headers and 16" pipe.
Today will be completing the rest of the exhaust because it was way too loud. Fun, but too loud.
