You may want to get a new centering bolt for each change, but I don’t think it’s too critical if you have some decent c clamps.

good point about the center bolt. they must be replaced every time you remove one. the proper way to install them is to cut the excess 7/8's of the way through then break the rest off. this creates a burr so the nut can't back off. highdesertranger

Buy bolts at least a few inches longer than the ones that you pull out; as long as they’re threaded all the way. It’ll make starting the nut much easier. They’re soft bolts, so get a few extra in case you mess up.

They can’t be too expensive. I went to the same blacksmith Craig went to for his springs and the owner gave me a handful for free.

Dang that's really nice, il probably just take the old ones to ace and grab some that match. Whike i have them off im probably going to clean and paint everything and have heard about spring paint that flexes with the spring, is that legit? Or just a gimmic

Not for sure on the paint, but get actual center bolts for leaf springs.

You’ll see what I mean once you pull it apart. The bolt is a different shape.

Edit:

They are soft for a reason. They are designed to shear in case of an accident to save other parts. The round head fits in the spring perch on your axle.

Do you know where I could get more? Or if I could just clean it up and reuse it

do not reuse the center bolt. any suspension shop will have them. auto part stores can get them, if they want to take the time. highdesertranger
