Has anyone installed headrests on their factory bench?

So my son will start driving the 86 next year, and my daughters will be occasional passengers on the way to school. Wondering if anyone has installed headrests that reasonably match to provide a little protection? As a teenager and passenger in a square, we were backing out of a gas station and backed into a pole at a pretty low speed. Ended up smashing the rear window with the back of our heads, nobody was hurt but it didn’t take much t9ndo that.

Anyway if anyone has let me know what is involved. Also, if you have any guidance on where I should be looking for headrests let me know.

Thanks

I think the headrest issue is one of the inherent problems of the square body. If you wanted a more sightly compromise, you could always swap in a 60/40 bench out of a GM car because those’ll have headrests. This also just popped into my head so take it with a grain of salt, but what about getting a doughnut shaped headrest, like out of an old Volvo or something, and somehow affixing it to the back glass like with Velcro for instance.

My other alternative is to throw these in for the next few years

Anyone have them and an opinion.
I had a square with a setup similar to what you linked. The one thing I really disliked about it, is that if you're a taller individual (six foot or taller) the seatback ends up nearly vertical to get a reasonable amount of leg room. The headrests end up right against the glass. If you're shorter, or carry your height in your torso, it might not be as bad, but I was never as comfortable in that truck as I am with a bench seat.

I bought everything to install headrests on the second row, but have not actually done the install yet. It is relatively straight forward

I am going to compare the measurements of the high backs to the bench to see how they compare. That might be the best option if they don’t make things too cramped. I’m 6’0 and so is he, except he’s still growing....

Post your findings. I've got a crew cab that I was thinking about doing this to. Front only though.

Looks like global warming is in full effect up there. When I lived in Illinois it got to -40 one time. I knew I had to make it back to Texas asap. Lol
