Has anyone have experience using a bed lift?

While that would be a neat tool to have, unless you do this job regularly, probably not worth the expense.

I typically use 2 tie downs crisscross across the bed and hook to the cherry picker. Expect the bed to flex.

The biggest problem I encounter is that most cherry pickers don't have enough boom length. Only the commercial units seem to have enough boom to handle a long bed.

I used lumber the first time. Got one of these setups like you have shown after that. I think I got it here - same style. Works well. Picks up the bed or the cab either one.

guess I'll be getting a chunk of 2x6 to put in the corner.

last time I used hexagonal aluminum from work about 1.5 inch thinking the flat edge would bite enough to stop it from moving. NOT...it ended up shifting towards the cab. Lesson learned, thanks for the idea.

next time regardless of what I use, I'll put c-clamps in front and rear of the cross member to hold it there.

I did that once and the corner boxes bent. I probably hooked into the wrong location or in the wrong way.

Good note, just for the bed, I drilled another hole on my picker strickly for the bed and used a heavy pipe to extend further.

Another lumber user here too, mine was an leftover 4x4. A couple of ratcheting bar clamps on each side will keep the bed from trying to slide forward/backward on the board.

If tie down anchors are of any use as they are to me, they can be easily installed in the corners of the box bed. They bolt through the bed crossmembers and make excellent, solid lifting points as well.
My '86 CUCV has them as well as my '08 2500. We have a nice adjustable bed net that does a nice job of securing cargo of any shape or size. Can always remove them if not being used.

We did what @Bennyt did with the criss cross when taking the bed off but when we decided to put it back on we just did it with a few friends and I think it was easier. Have to pull it agin soon as we are about to do the western chassis 2/4 drop and can’t get to the front leaf supports to cut them off the frame. Our plan will be to just get a few guys and do the same thing.

Mr Seymore, thank you very much you just made my life much easier. I ve got a gantry crane,I lift them off drive the truck out, but then have to find 3 friend who aren't busy at the same time to move the bed.

I just used a farm tractor with a bucket loader. The engine lift trick that Keith used works great too.

I bought a bed lift from a body shop supply, but the brand escapes me at the moment. By the time you buy pizza and beer for three buddies twice, you'd have paid for the tool. Just saying. I found it a worthwhile investment as a one man show with aspirations lol.
