I was at a shop today getting some ppf installed on the wife's car and they were detailing this little thing. Hadn't seen one before, it turns out these were very limited production. Only one or two remain in driving condition. Right hand drive adds to the strange factor.

The half recessed headlights in that fashion remind me of a Ferrari 250/400, but that’s about the only thing I can comment on. Whatever it is, it looks really sharp.

Mazda Cosmo! This is my kind of game because I knew it right away. I think Jay Leno has one.

gyg was on the right track but Dustin nailed it. A 1967 model to be exact. This particular one is all original except for the tires. I think they said it has around 30K original miles. The owner has been offered $160,000 for it by Mazda Corporation but it's being sold to a private collector.

Never had one in front of me. They are sort obscure to say the least.
Did if feel like a 200k car in real life?

I think my interest in owning it would stop at around $5000. Shows you what I know about exotic cars.

Exotic is a stretch. Basically a flop vehicle in the US even with the alpha looks. Imagine if The Graduate used this?
Powerplant isn't really powerful but it will rev to the bejeesus and pull as hard as it can through most of it. Helps they don't weigh much.
This one will probably be locked in a dark corner for the end of time. :(

Mazda ran two of these in 1968 at the Marathon de la Route, an 84 hour endurance race at the Nürburgring. It was how Mazda introduced it's rotary engine to the world. Both cars were running near the front of their Touring/GT class until one suffered a failed axle at the 80 hour mark. The other finished in fourth place behind two Porches and a Lancia. Not a bad showing for a first attempt.
