have any of you seen one of these? i thought it was pretty cool looking. the idea is to replace the air cleaner top with this to improve airflow, pretty interesting idea.

I don't like them for two reasons. It will collect dirt right there on top, and if there's a backfire through the carb, the filter could catch fire.

Wouldn't the fire hazard apply to any open element air filter then? And I see what you mean about the dirt thing but what about for street use?

When you have a backfire through the carb, the flame goes directly up.

And just general road debris will end up on top of the lid. It's hard enough keeping a regular chrome lid clean.

Oh I see, so would wix or napa be my best option for a performance filter or am I wasting my time getting a different filter? And by the way thanks to all of you for helping me out I'm a huge noob with all of this. I know so many people who wouldn't be willing to help out

you are wasting time with performance filters, period. If you still have the flame arrestor in your air cleaner, you may gain some air flow by removing it. I think you may have the extra tall air cleaner...it doesnt get much better.

It doe's look pretty neat, i'll give it that. Nice if you're trying to keep a stock style look under the hood, but with a little something extra.

And I agree with the other guys. Gaining a few extra horsepower from a high flow filter isn't worth the life it will take off your engine due to the amount of extra dirt/dust it lets pass through.
