I've got an 85 C20. I've got duel fuel tanks and I want to get rid of them and put a transfer tank on the flatbed as my only fuel point. Has anyone ever done this? Any pointers? This is my first old square body that I've really worked on. Thanks alot!

Without ever doing this myself I would imagine that having a carb'd engine would make this simple. Plumb the lines and done. I have no idea how you would get your fuel level sender in that transfer tank and operational.

Any reason why you want to delete your stock tanks?

If not worried about the gas gauge working then yeah just plumb it in, should be able to go to the lowest point accessible on the tank. I would suggest a suburban tank between the rear frame rails, over a service tank, but that's just my preference.

My truck used to have a dealer-installed auxiliary tank. It was just a welded square tank mounted in the stock location and bolted up under the bed with four bolts wielded on top and going up through the bed of the truck. There was a round hole in the top and a universal sending unit was installed. Everything was connected up just like the stock main tank.

One nice addition was a fuel petcock in the bottom of the tank, pointing straight down. I could open it up and easily drain fuel out of the tank. Very convenient to check for contamination, or get a little gas for the lawnmower.

@75gmck25 , had the same on my75 K20,only I installed it(worked at the Chevy dealer). Worked extremely well and we needed it when ever we wanted to go ANYWHERE! Big overhead camper, loaded, with 4 of us in the cab headed out to who knows where. We needed all the fuel we could get!
