Fuel pump pushrod stuck??...

So I recently purchased a 1979 gmc c6000, the thing ran fine until I stopped by my house on the way to a job to fix my drivers side door. I turned it off for a minute came back and it wouldn't crank. Checked the gas and the tank was full of rust. Had a friend diagnose the problem as the fuel pump. Took the tank off cleaned it out, replaced the fuel line, filter, and my friend replaced the pump. Still wouldn't crank. Checked the pump only to realise it was barely on there... took it off and now the pushrod won't slide out... tried everything... about to burn the thing to the ground and take what's left to the scrap yard....

Did your friend use a bolt to lock the fuel pump push rod up, so the pump installation would be easier? Maybe the bolt is still there?

No... but I guess he just shoved the pump over it... finally got the pushrod out and it was bent pretty bad

Do you realize how difficult it is to bend one of those hardened steel rods ??
I would not allow your friend to work on any of MY trucks .........

That is one of the most impressive things I’ve heard in a long time. I’m not sure I could bend one of those trying. But this guy was like Mr Magoo and had no clue he was doing something so stupid lol.

I'm not sure I would trust the guy who did that to even be a pastry chef ....... can't help but wonder how bad he could screw THAT up .......

wow damn this is a first for me to see one of these rods bent wow...........! :O a pen mzgnet and a small hacksaw blade are all you need to rmeove install these rods. and also some thick grease, but puting in a longer bolt into the threaded bolt hole also will hold keep the rod up in place when its up on the backside/heel of the lob that it rides on.

i wonder if the bend lines up with the hole in the block. only way I can see it getting that much lateral force is having a bolt ran into it sideways and even that doesnt seem possible

I'd be wondering about the condition of the pump lobe on the camshaft.

Better check your cam lobe, may have punished it in the process. Use wheel bearing grease on the rod, helps keep it up, and also, install with the cam lobe in the up/away position, not towards down. Just did this a month ago. Good success.
