Hello Folks,

I've started tearing down my front end to do some needed work to it. The plan is to put new inner and outer wheel bearings, new brake pads, new calipers (one was seized), and have the rotors turned. My question is about the disc brake dust shield. I removed both sides so I could clean them up as they had lots of dirt and debris stuck to them. The back side has a thin rubber washer...one shield's rubber washer is good but the other side tore off. Are these rubber washers necessary?? I found an AC Delco part number of 15699959. I'm assuming they are to prevent dirt and dust front entering the back side of the brake rotor/bearing assembly?

Thought and experience?

Next on the list will be upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, idler arm/pitman arm, and shocks (all are original!!)

If your talking about the inner bearing seal, then YES, they are absolutely necessary. Get new ones.

No not the inner bearing seal. I'll definitely be replacing those. Its the rubber gasket on the back of the dust shield. I didn't need to remove the dust shield just took them off to clean them up.....thats when the rubber gasket tore off
