I have a 1987 K10 Pickup with 10 Bolt front Axle (not sure the ratio yet). I have a front driveshaft but I lack the 4 bolts on the transfercase side and I'm missing one of the four bolts on the differential side. Where do I get these bolts? What specifications do I need? Strength etc.

Also what kind of cleaning, lubrication should I do while I have it apart?

I went to the local autozone and bought the u-joint stap kit and it came with 4 new bolts. I don't know about the bolts on the tc side. I'm pretty sure you can get them at your local parts store also. I bought like 10 different sizes/tread and found the one that fit, bought 4like it, and returned the rest. They are about an inch long.

I had the same problem a few years ago with my 82k5 didnt have the bolts and I can't remember what size they are but it You have a tap and die try your taps in them till you find one that fits. Thats what I did. If I was around my k5 I'd pull a bolt and let you know but I won't be around for another 2 weeks.

I think they were 7/16" thread 14 and I'm thinking roughly 1" to 1 1/2". Just measure the flange thicknesses of the tcase and drive shaft flange

And I'd probably get at least Grade 5, Grade 8 would be even better.

Also not sure how you feel about it, but I've heard of front driveshafts getting stolen alot. Happened to MrClean here not long ago while he was parked at a movie theatre while inside watching a movie. Use Loc Tite Red so it can't be taken out with standard hand tools and might need a little heat to break them loose. The crook might just move on if he has to struggle to much with the bolts.

I thought those bolts were 3/8" coarse thread, about 1 1/2" long, 9/16" hex head?

Ok. Bumping this thread from the dead. I feel like I'm completely losing my mind. I got some Grade 8 3/8-16x1" bolts and they are too small by a tiny margin. They thread in but I can wiggle the bolts out and they won't completely tighten.

I tried M10 bolts coarse and fine thread, but those are clearly a touch big. They go in a few turns and bind.

The threads don't look trashed.... I'm really just confused at this point. Do I need to put nuts on the ends of these bolts? This just doesn't add up.

How about visting the help section at your local discount auto parts store and buying something like this, usually Dorman brand in the red Help packaging for about $4. Take the other bolt and strap with your match it up.

Already got the yoke/straps all sorted. It's the transfer case side bolts. Parts stores were stumped/clueless about the T/C side.

OK, so you're talking where the D shaft bolts to the square flange on the Tcase? So the part on the Dshaft should be slip through on the bolts right? Then you need to know what the thread pitch and size for the threads in the Tcase Front Dshaft Flange is? What Transfer Case do you have ? I'll read up top and see if you mentioned that already.

Yes. I know that the bolts should not thread into the holes on the flange on the driveshaft. I want bolts that will thread into the flange on the T/C. I believe the T/C is a NP208. I'm considering just using 3/8"-16 bolts with nuts on the ends at this point. Maybe they aren't supposed to thread there either?

If yours is an 87 V10, I have this from an 87 V10 laying in my backyard. 700r4/NP208. I bet I can find out for sure in daylight.

Just saw your post. I think this is what I'm going to do. I don't see how there can exist a bolt that will actually thread into this thing. There isn't anything I can get my hands on between a 3/8" and M10.
