Front differential vent hose

Where does the front diff vent hose go? Mine went to a prebent pipe that went to (I'm guessing) the canister? Not sure about any of it since the PO's son pulled ALL the vac lines off. No idea why it would go anywhere but to open air like the rear's.

I’m not sure if they are all routed exactly the same, but my ‘89 goes to a short section of hard line attached to the frame near the steering box, and then more rubber hose (with check valve) terminates at a bracket attached to the core support near the headlight.

My 84 goes from the diff to a hardline on the engine crossmember near the frame, or to the frame near the crossmember. The hardline runs inside the frame rail and comes up over the top inside of the frame rail, in front of the power steering lines, then I extended mine as far up as I could on the core support between the headlights and rad support, with the check valve guy at the end.

Ok....think I found a few pics of this thing - and where it mounted. Are these OE check valves still available - or did you use something more midevil?

Wondering what kind of hose works - cant see needing the high $ emission stuff. THX!

In that second picture, the long hose hanging down with the band clamp and the check valve on there, i believe they are still available. I'm not sure the first picture is factory, but would work, I mounted mine higher up and to the right of the position.

Those pics are one and the same thing. Pics I tool last year while taking things apart. This is an 85.....no doubt where they hung it was the topic of meetings and redesign. lol


Maybe THESE? Rock's got them. So does Summit.

Location on the '86 'burb. Same on the '85 pick-up, but there's this diesel radiator in the way.

Picked up a 5pk of OE GM's on Rock. Will do both axles and then found another on the transfer case.

Why in the world would they put the hose way away from the axle like that when the one in the back is just right above the rear end up on the frame? Why would it need to go that far away to vent pressure from the axle housing?

You want it up high enough to not allow water to enter when you are doing deep puddle/river/pond crossings.

Some relocate them even higher.

Im a 4x4 guy and its automatic to go put longer hoses on them. Keep the vent on it too.
