I have a 78 chevy 1500 4wd short bed with a rough frame. I found a 1986 nice frame front looks different at the end of rails. Bumper mounts may need changed but wanted to make sure everything else will bolt up. Thanks

I have a 79 frame and 86 cab and bed. The frame horns are different, I used a 79 bumper.

Sounds like the horn being only difference(what is a frame horn?) everything else worked well for you, shorty?

Frame horns is the very front of the frame. The 73-80 frame horns are rounded off and look finished. The 81-91 frame horns are a sharp point where it looks like the frame is cut off at an angle.

Is there a reason they did that change? And does it affect much else?

Yes, everything worked out fine. Luckily I had access to a 79 bumper. I wanted a painted bumper but had to settle for chrome. I think the frame design change was a cost cutting measure.

Can mounts aren’t interchangeable. you need the one’s for the correct frame. so you’ll need to factor that in
