I had an old man neighbor (he passed away a few years back, rest his soul) and whenever I would make a trip to the big city to shop and have a good sit down meal at a restaurant, he almost always rode along.
That was a high point in life he really enjoyed.
He was a long term die hard Ford fan, but several times he made a comment that made me feel good, he said "I have owned and driven almost every kind of car made in my life, mostly Fords, and I even owned a few Chevy's, but nothing I owned ever ran as good as your Chevy trucks".
I already know there is a waiting list for when I croak, all wanting at least one of my trucks.

Back in the day, I bought an '89 Cavalier with a 4 cylinder 5-speed power steering delete - when I finally sold it, there was over 300000 miles on it. Years later, I bought a used Dodge 1500 2wd with the 318 in it and when I wrote it off after hitting an elk, it had almost 355000 miles on it. My next was a commuter car - a Ford Fucos...... had it six months and it blew up on a Friday at 5:35pm, on the freeway..... the F150 I bought used right after pooped the bed after a couple months with both cam phasers and one cracked head.
My best luck has been with Chevrolet, not Buick, Olds or Poncho (I have had them all) and have had ZERO luck with Ford. I have friends who claim their Fords have never let them down, fine with me.

I have had many Square Bodies, and loved them all.

A coworker drove a Yugo.He removed the Yugo badge from the back of car,,replaced it with the Blue oval badge.He said he did it so people would think the car was at least a Ford when it was on the side of the road broken down.

did you replace the fluid or did you replace solenoids..?
the flashing OD light means the pressure control solenoid systems are not working right, and then it should set to a non flashing oD off and then the shifting is all wacky. but if you turn it off and turn it on or you take a hard left or you let it sit over night it maybe acts normal again right?

It's my daily so I needed it done with minimal down time, decided to swap the whole unit instead of working on the trans, This is the first computer controlled trans I have dealt with so I didn't have time to deal with a learning curve. I've also never gotten anywhere close to 200,000 miles on a transmission before this one so I figured it was ready for full swap.

It sure is nice having it back to shifts so smooth you don't notice them.

When I met my now ex-wife, she had a brand new 2013 Focus sedan. That car drove terrible from day one. I don't know what the deal was with the factory tune trying to help with gas mileage or to protect the glass transmission or what exactly, but when the car would upshift into 2nd and/or 3rd gear, the engine would knock or something for a split second until it reached 2k RPM. I don't know how to explain it, but it sounded like gravel being dumped into the air intake.

I had a lot of complaints about that car, but I especially hated that DCT. Luckily it was just a lease, and I was so happy when we turned that car in. I thought to myself how great it was that I would never be forced to drive one of those piles of junk ever again.

Well, joke's on me. A couple years ago, I got hired as a service rep at MSC Industrial (basically a smaller version of Grainger) and they gave me a company car, which was a 2018 Focus hatchback.....

I only worked there for a year, but I put over 30k miles on that car. I didn't have any problems with it, and it was really nice to have a company car with free gas (even for personal use when I was off the clock), the company paid for all maintenance, and I could drive/park the car anywhere without worrying about it.

I worked with a few other guys in the same position, and we all had the same crappy Focus hatchbacks. There were times when I had to meet up with one of them at one of our accounts, and I would often play "bumper cars" in the parking lot. If I was parking in a space behind them or we were both waiting at the entry gate or whatever, I would "rattle their cage" with a little nudge from the bumper

That car was a POS, but now that I switched jobs and no longer have a company car, I do miss the peace of mind from having a free car with free gas that I didn't give a damn about. I just don't understand how the hell Ford sold any of these shitboxes. I'm sure the ST with the manual trans was a completely different animal, but the base cars with the auto transmission are complete garbage.

My buddy used to do that in his Daewoo. That car is probably even worse than your Ford was. Just a turd. Lol

My brother drove an ST for a handful of years before he grew a pair and traded it in on a '19 Colorado. It was a quick car, but cramped as it was still a little hatchback. Not very cool and he didn't beat on it so I never got to feel how quick it actually was.

In High School, one of the guys had a Vauxhall Viva. No room, no power, no heater, no air conditioning and no sound proofing. But it refused to die. One day, he was doing doughnuts in the High School parking lot and the car simply flipped on its side. So we let it sit there for a while before pushing it back on the tires - he then immediately fired it up and it coughed a couple times, chugged smoke out the back for a minute and it was off again.
Everyone called it the Nuclear Cockroach.

how many miles on it?
you arent lost yet, but if you have it still, its worth openign to look at it. its all under the pan, like a th350 would have most under its pan etc.
when you remove the filter there is a pack of solenoids which is the only other thing before you start opening up into internal valve body stuff like accumulators or passages etc

That pack has a connector and it looks bolted in to hold it, o ring i think, and then its job is to handle line pressure and firmness etc. the logic for what to do and when would be in the PCM or the neutral safety stuff(external on the trans I think) So you wouldnt have to touch them.

If you have ever the issue again, your OD Light will flash and then stay flashing IIRC while issue is present. IF THE ISSUE FIXES ITSELF, it should go solid which would allow you to press the OD off switch and then resume normal use.

So basically, dont worry about it now, but if you want to learn a little bit or have a core for that solenoid pack you can open it up, and if you want to just know that if it happens again, i personally recommend a simple 40 dollar scan tool and ATF and a new pack on hand. the code it sets will be circuit failure, and live data on any low end tool should indicate if its present shorted to power, ground, or OPen,

in my case, not my vehicle so i dont know what they will do but the intermittent nature, high mileage yes, BUT crisp and consistent shifts even WOT in higher gears, have made me confident after a small bit of research that a fluid pan drain and filter, fill with a new or rebuilt solenoid pack would probably fix it.if I could not "undo" the problem, I would probably assume its shear wear and flushign the fluid to remove the debris in the fluid wont work unless you got a machine because the fluid was so contaminated it was operating with metallic debris under pressure circulating. things got hot. slipping. Etc. if the solenoid wasnt shorted, that would be a sign of trans passages or gaskets or pumps maybe lol.

Low speed pre ignition LSPI, its what the newest oil rating SP is actually for. That car also was direct injection so once you got past 40k miles the thing probably had life time smoker tar build up but in the intake and intake valve especially.

My mom has a 15 focus hatch for work vehicle. solid piece of **** car tthats cheap and uncomfortable and tbf half its issues are neglect by company willingly but still
She goes into rural northern WI to sell beer to accounts that dont have cell service unless you stand on a roof in good weather, and shes had battery failurer, wheel hub failure (Wheel came off) , transmission something, overheat, bad connections, like 15 jump starts before that battery FINALLY pooped in cold weather they just assumed she could just keep jumping???

The motor running like a pig now its near 200k

Transmission slipping. lol. Oil probably neglected she said they have to check it often for her.




Its truly not a "bad" in the sense it has no place or its something to write off(Like FCA products) but its just cheap and its beat to piss by idiots who dont understand the value of fleet maintenance at all. (Private company, also very much run more like trying to put the square into the circle and when ti does not fit, they just keeping shoving it. Does it make it through? probably not. rich people, they got a lot to lose I guess but sometimes they succeed so well at failing they keep in business

They finally did what chevrolet has done with 1 cam in a gasoline v8 since the 60s

*made over 400 horsepower on a stock engine with not 1, not 2, but 4 whole cams*

I gave the coyote motor a read today, and I have to say again, GM did what they can today on carburetors back in the 60s and 70s.

You know why they say an LS is a stolen ferd design ?

Because an LS head, I think specifically a 5.3 will bolt onto a 302, that's about the size of it.

Same pattern, so it must be stolen .

I guess jeep also stole the 5 on 5 wheel pattern from chevrolet too, huh?

The one good thing I can say about Ford, is that from 92 to 99, they were the only medium duty you could get a 12 valve Cummins in. The Kodiaks and Topkicks of the day had Caterpillars of different flavors. For gas engines though, GM still had an edge.

I've also had good luck with Ford/New Holland tractors. Afterall, Ford is an expert at building slow moving vehicles.....
