A friends shop put a reman. 300i6 in a truck,the man got mad at his wife and floored the engine till it snatched 2 rods out of the pistons and broke the cam in 2 or three places.By then the engine had several thousand miles on it and he tried to get my friends shop to warranty it.The rebuild company said he couldnt produce proof of oil changes and the engine showed signs of abuse....like imagine that! The man got real mad.Maybe he went home and blew his wifes engine up! Lol

Ive learned my lesson, and maybe so did he about getting mad at women.... dont take it out on the truck (well except the ford)

Got an i6 as a work truck ( not my choice). It had under 100k when it was purchased. This truck leaks oil and the added oil is the only change it’s ever had.
At quarter million miles was taking it up a hill to a job. Oil pump went out. The knocking could be heard for miles. No cell range and I’m not walking up a hill. Finished the last 1/2 mile or so drive to the customers house (embarrassing)
Did the job and had the truck towed home. After determining it was indeed the oil pump I replaced it and put the truck back into service. I’m currently at 298k miles. Still running, though with a lot less power than 150k miles ago And it chews through brake pads. I have a spare engine on the stand getting ready for a build. Once done.. I fully expect another quarter million at least.

But to bring the thread back on track. Ford sucks, Chevy all the way!

ford 300 was immenselvy AIDED by fuel injection, from what i read the distribution of gas by the factory carbs were just terrible, so a 2 or 3 1 barrel setup with a proper manifold would help. and the factory injection, especially obd2 on 1996 models, helped a lot. But then its got all the factory Furd stuff that is annoying. Smog pump, Ford PS pump(SAGINAW if you had a van), vacuum lines made from office pens from ford HQ(I presume), ridiculous plastic housings and panels and covers(So was chevy at the time, i guess), complicated AIR, Evap, EGR, etc, but this is all nothing to say about the actual engine.

Damn Ag. Couldn’t have worded my distaste for Ford any better. The one we have is a 93. So it is indeed FI. But since I was a child my grandparents owned a Mustang restoration shop. So my distaste started young.
The amount of funky smog equipment and vacuum lines is exactly why I hate them.

Honestly, part of the reason I became a chevy nut in high school. Making a nice $5.25/hour pretty much determined that since chevy parts easily cost half most of the ford parts to hop something, all I could afford was old novas, lol.

Trash talk Ford sure I can do that. A great excuse to let loose on how I really feel. Keep in mind this is from the perspective of a mechanic not someone that owns Ford, just someone that has had to work on these things. How about those Triton V8's the ones that are half buried under the cowling and dash, taking several hours just to replace the plugs, and if your unlucky you might snap a plug off and spend several hours fixing that crap. Even more fun if it's in a van. Ignition coils prone to fail and intake manifolds prone to leaking to the spark plug tubes. What pieces of crap, but some people like the triton... How about the explorer or the ranger, all on the same chassis. 4X4 hub setup prone to failing to engage when you need it the most. The 4.0 and 3.0 that like to leak oil. Or the radius arm bushings that require mad hours to change or unorthodox methods to avoid killing yourself. Now how about some comments on the Fox body Mustang. I don't get it I see those things all fixed up and sometimes people put a lot of money into them to make them go faster, but they still feel like a cheaply built piece of **** going down the road.


Slowly I'm starting to realize that I've got to get out of the business of fixing cars. Recently I've found one job that I think I would enjoy. So it starts with getting a job at an metal recycler, and then moving into the position of the man that runs the car crusher. I'm telling you it would give me so much pleasure to push the button, or pull the lever and watch another Ford get crushed! The downside to the job would be having to crush cars I like, flattening a square body would be tough. A Fox body easy. So I came to this conclusion I should volunteer at a metal recycler. Tell them to hang on to all the Fords and when they have a days worth of Fords to be crushed, they can call me in and I'll run the crusher until all the Fords are done for the day for free. My pay would be in the pleasure I'd take crushing Fords. Now that would be fun!

^Idk how to like your post twice but if I could I would!

Hell, my motto for 20 years was “the only good Ford is a free Ford”. Because I had almost exclusively Ford company trucks. From early 90s models to early 2010s models. But in all honesty, they were as reliable as our personal GMs and Rams.
For every spark plug spitting or breaking Triton, I’d present a (later model) LS with AFM and valve train issues.


Oh yeah also Ford Sucks!

Those i6s are beasts.
Create enough torque for a ford and can be beat down and keep on running. The fuel delivery system is something to hate... But that engine deserves awards.

You know what else can be beaten down and keep running?
Chevy small blocks.
4.3, 5.3, 5.7 namely, take your pick.
(Im in the minority of people that vouch for 4.3 because ive seen and heard people literally drain all the oil and coolant out of it and it wont quit)
While they seemingly have a power limit N/A due to lack of aftermarket components, i love 'em.
Constantly hear "you should swap your 4.3 for a 5.3 LS"

I can vouch for my latest 283...the '63 sat on a hillside for 10+ years, possibly 15, brought it home, checked the oil and antifreeze, put a battery in and filled the carb bowl. Two cranks and it fires, lol.

Absolutely Rob, when working on vehicle for a living, almost nothing ford designed made much sense. I will give them credit for the C6, toploader, and 9", everything else not so much

I mean... I routinely see SBC die around 150k. Not until the vortec 5.7 did I start to see more trucks in the 200k mile range.
Since the vortec didn’t really come out until 96 being the same year as Ford ended the 300. It’s kinda a moot debate. also comparing the 300 (old ass tech) to a 5.3 modern engine that’s just unfair.
like saying your new phone or computer is better than the ones from the 90s. I mean I’m sure your right and I’d agree. But let’s not compare new vs old here.
