I am disabled and need assistance getting into my 89 Jimmy. It has stock suspension and 31x10.50s on it now but I am in the process of putting 33x12.50s on because I can't resist.:);):cool: I have weak legs due to nerve damage from a broken neck. So for now I can just barely get in on my good days. But I'm looking for options to lose the running boards and not have too large of a step to get in.
I am looking for some out-of-the-box thinkers on this. I will chime in later just so I don't influence those thinkers. So give me your best thought on how I can get in my slightly lifted Jimmy.:banghead::Big Laugh::boxed::doh2:

Just a quick thought:

A small step stool or wooden box with a piece of rope tied to it.

Step up in the truck, grab the rope, pull the box/stool in, and close the door.

I know that there is some powered steps that lower when you open the door and go back up when you close then. I don't know if they make them for a square but it might not be hard to make some work.

There is a thread here that might help called 'amp power steps on a K5 solved' sorry I don't know how to add a link but it talks about them

  • Or something like this that I can attach to underneath and slide back under the chassis all hidden. Not sure if I need as many rungs as this and might need the steps closer together.
This is just a thought tell me if I'm not able to.

Just a quick thought:

Step up in the truck, grab the rope, pull the box/stool in, and close the door.
That's what I'm doing now to get in at times. I am 6'4" and the way I get in now is to back in hooking a butt cheek on the edge of the seat cushion while shimmying in. If I can't do that I get out the step.

Does this make sense to anyone but me? I have not been able to look at the bottom of the truck to see if it will work.

A couple of "OH ****" bars in the interior would definitely make egress easier on the steering column.
One above the door , one along the door and one on the A pillar.

That ladder device might work with some square tubing and welding. I installed one on the outer "C" channel of a small dump body. The ladder slid between the frame and dump body when stored.

Bag it. Lower it to get in, raise it when the truck starts, lower it when the truck turns off. Could be all automatic with the key position.

humm my first thought is you should not be driving at all.....weaker legs you dont have the response time to stop or go in a hurry ie accident prevention ect... stirrups i have used before on a lifted dodge those worked out pretty good except when rock climbing then they just got tore off..... some sorta latter like a stirrup.......perhalps a small lift gate type device that tucks under when not in use......

Now idk about this one,but I got thinking about high-school days and 1/2 the cars in the parking lot sitting 4 inches higher in the rear on air shocks. Thinking you could cut 1 coil in the front a 4 inch blocks in the rear with air shocks on all 4 corners. Again lower to get in and out.

A full roll cage that has handles so you can "pull-up" your self in.

Temporarily try a water-ski tow rope attached and thrown over the roof from the pass side to pull yourself in.



Lastly, just for fun, you could try...

put smaller tires on it
Now this is just precious.

Again when you pull with only one arm it throws your weight off. Last one just won't happen.
Blocks on all 4 corners with air shocks,cheap and easy. As for bagging it and ride height adjustment you could probably rob the compressor height sensors bags,etc. From a junkyard lincoln.
