Flat bed ideas

Any one ever made a flat bed from a box. I got a crappy box and need a deck for hauling water. Just a thought

Just take it off completely and make your own flat bed. Get some rectangle tubing as wide as the frame some 3" channel and some sheet metal. You could make a headache rack to if you wanted. Its prety easy just go look at the next one you see. Thats if you got a welder and a chop saw. Much cheaper to make Iit then buy one. Put the tubing along the frame at its highest point plate steel down to the frame bolt it dont weld it. and set the channel every foot or so across it. run channel down each side then sheet metal on top.. you could make it look good

I saw a local truck that had the bedsides cut at the floor level. All he kept was from the floor down. I can't really remember what he did around the wheelwells, but I do remember seeing it and thinking it was really cool. It had the factory look by concealing the frame and underside, yet the capability of a flatbed. Looked a million times better than the type kleedus posted. No offense man...

edit: This was on a 99-06 vintage Chevy, but the same principle applies to our squarebodies.

with a flat bed I really don't care how it looks its all about the utility of it to me as long as its not a cobbled up mess.

that is a factory built bed I just threw it on and ran with it

my other flat bed is even uglier

My square came with a factory built flatbed and it needs to be rebuilt

Its 9' long with a gooseneck ball under a hinged panel, set up for a pintle hitch and has a big receiver hitch too.

Id like something like that but am tapped right now so I might just insure the 93 to haul water. I can't even find a crappy one for less then 500

Yes. I used 4 x 4's for the frame and cross rails, 2 x 4's for the bed, and 2 x 6's for the sides, headboard and rear light panel. Used carriage bolts to bolt the 4 x 4's to the frame and lag bolts for the rest.
