Finally got extended/suitable emergency brake cables onto my rear wheels.

First this is in large part thanks to member "Legopneumatic" who helped me figure this all out!

My truck is extremely lifted and the stock e-brake cables coming from the backing plate were unusable. Tonight I finally got around to fixing this.

The cables I used are Raybestos part #BC93256 which are significantly longer than the originals on my truck. Comparison photo below.

These are almost identical in length inside the backing plate but do have a different mount. This is important because many of the other options I considered have a different barrel end orientation from what our trucks use.

I fabbed a simple bracket from a piece of angle iron compressed, slotted and drilled for the original mounting bolts and new cable.

Mounting was simple. Only issue I see is the open gap which I intend on closing up with a piece of rubber or something. I did have to add a single washer to close up the gap between the mount stop and prongs of the new cable.

As you can see these are considerable longer than the originals and will now provide me a lot of options as I replace/fabricate everything up to the pedal!

Hoping this helps someone in the future!

Right on! Nice work on the mounting tabs. A piece of inner tube might work as a dust seal, cheap and easy to get ahold of.

Dose your e-brake cables run down the driver side and then split off into the axle. One cable is long that goes to the passenger side of the axle and the other is short that goes to the drivers side of the axle.
i put 3/4 quarter ton axles in my 1986 1/2 ton short bed, and the rear axle is out of a 1978 k20 the e-brake cables coming out of the axle were designed to run up to the frame on both sides. I'm having trouble finding cables to connect to drivers side system. i was wondering if this would work.

It may have originally, but nothing was left. I swapped to a 14 bolt axle so really just making it up as I go. I can update here as I go!
