While mine wasn't a single plane, I had a air gap high rise and it kills your bottom end. Works really good if you want to cruise down the highway in 2nd gear at 4500 RPMs. Just don't disregard the advice is all. Give craigslist a leak. You can probably trade yours for a performer. I just traded a junk edelbrock carb for a performer intake. Didn't cost me anything. You want be unhappy with your current one, because you won't know the difference. You will just be happier with a duel plane.

Your truck will hate a single plane and will be a bit gutless down low. You will sacrifice more low and mid than you will gain in the top end. To make a single plane work, you need a lot more cam and a lot more stall. And more gear too.

i know the intake isnt the best. but lets ignore that for now. i have to either swap to electric fuel pump or get a cam with the mech fuel pump lobe on it.

so im just going with the electric pump, leaving the cam alone, and swaping straight up.

i remember reading something about leaving the mech pump and just adding the electric one. the mech pump currently installed is from advance auto.

are the replacement fuel pumps the flow through type?

Even if you did save the 5 bucks on not getting a block-off plate, you wouldn't run the fuel through the non-op fuel pump. You would just run the line from the electric pump to the carb (with a filter of course).

Even if you did save the 5 bucks on not getting a block-off plate, you wouldn't run the fuel through the non-op fuel pump. You would just run the line from the electric pump to the carb (with a filter of course).

gotcha the vortec came with a block off plate anyways

What did you do for manifolds or headers? I’m doing similar on 86 k10 350 Vortec heads

I'm blowing an electric pump through a factory replacement style mechanical pump with no pushrod behind it. I like it,I'd recommend it especially on a qjet application. I retain all my factory steel lines and have working bypass to keep my electric pump happy. The factory style pumps have valves similiar to Reed valves so fuel blows right through them. If you are concerned that a leaking diaphragm will let fuel into the crankcase,drill a weep hole at the base of the pump. Or even remove the pump arm and bolt it over a block off plate but I like having the working return,and steel line to the carb.I also put a lawn mower fuel shut off valve in the return line at the pump,I can change the amount I return to alter my fuel pressure.

You could also screw with people and just ziptie the pump to the inner fender. I bet your buddies would have a funny look on their face when they see under the hood, lol.

Andrew, not sure if you know the stock 86 manifolds on your truck will not fit your "new" vortec heads. If you got the vortec exhaust manifolds I'd be very curious if they fit your 86.
In my case using 059 casting vortec heads on my 85 305 and need exhaust manifolds that fit.

FWIW I strongly agree with others about the single plane intake. But respect your choices.

Even if you don't want to run headers or buy new manifolds, there's much better choices for manifolds that will fit. And they are often cheap or nearly free.

Imho, no real loss there. Running those highly restrictive "log" style manifolds would pretty much defeat the purpose of a more performance oriented head swap. Even if you don't want to run headers or buy new manifolds, there's much better choices for manifolds that will fit. And they are often cheap or nearly free.

Yep, it's the darn number 8 port header bolt location. They are over an inch different. LOL
It may be both Andrew and I would be better off with headers. I know for a fact Summit SUM-G9006 fits mid 80's C & K 10's very well. I was just trying to cheap out.

Running stock logs on vortecs. Engine runs strong. How much am I losing? Good question, and no plans to gasket match the 81 logs, or go with headers or something aftermarket.
