Hi everyone. I had been looking specifically for a 1987 GMC for several months. Just recently found this one in San Antonio and had it shipped all the way to Kentucky!

It’s in great shape, but there are a few things I’ll be working on. I’ve already replaced the fuel selector valve, tank switch inside the cab, and the transfer case switch that makes the 4WD dash light come on.

I cleaned / fixed the door jamb switches because the dome and courtesy lights stayed in all the time (previous owner just removed the bulbs).

Last, I put in a new cruise control switch (on the column), but cruise still doesn’t work. Most of everything else seems to work fine, so I’ll play around with the cruise and hopefully eventually get that worked out.

@JM in KY can you tell us why you specifically wanted a 1987? Was it because of the TBI? You have a very nice looking truck there.

Unless your truck still has the "FUEL INJECTION" badge on the tailgate there isn't really any way for the casual observer to know what year your truck is. I got so many "What year is that truck?" questions that I bought a 1987 license plate for the front of mine.

I wanted a 1987 because it’s the same model year my grandfather drove when I was a teenager. That truck is a big part of my memory of him. There’s no “fuel injection” badge, but I think I’ll go looking for one to put back on. Thanks!

@JM in KY those little badges can be found but they are ridiculously expensive. I really should buy a replacement for when/if I ever repaint my truck. It's a very small badge but things like that do matter to some folks...I am one of those.

Great looking truck! Something to check on the cruise control issue is the cc servo. It’s the round diaphragm connected to the throttle linkage. Mine had a small crack in the dried-out rubber and that was keeping it from working.

I should have one around here somewhere. I didn't put it back on when I redid my truck.

That truck is in stunningly good condition. You've done well. Good luck diagnosing the cruise control. It could be something as simple as a vacuum leak.

I've acquired several used squares in my life. On one, the c.c. linkage was disconnected. On another, the 79, the cruisemaster servo needs attention.
I'd check the vacuum lines/source. Those lines are 35 years old now.
