Can any tell me if hood stripes were a factory option, or even a dealer add on?

Pic is of my 84 GMC Sierra Classic, and underneath the patina (rust as I see it) there are a pair of stripes.
I thought it was added by the previous owner, but I was watching a video the other day and seen another GMC with similar stripes. So I started to look for the rpo code with no luck.
Was this just a popular thing back then or what??
Thanks.

They started with the deluxe two tone in '78, then got really popular in '79-80. I don't recall seeing them on the sloped '81-up front ends, but looks like you have one.

Oh yeah, whatever you do, take care of that grille. They are very hard to find in good condition!

Yeah, trust me I know. I had to build this one from a non Sierra Classic grill I found at a swap meet.

Check out some of my previous post.

the patina (rust as I see it)

Someone who has sense... lol.

Yeah nature did it, same way it rotted the steps to my porch, but I don't see anyone calling that unique or beautiful.

Rust just looks crappy and old.

Though I respect your truck is solid and cool and can't wait to see what comes from it. But yeah "patina" is a stupid excuse of trying to pat ones self on the back for driving old junk. Just admit you can't afford a repaint, nothing to pretend you like lolol

If properly done they look okay sometimes. Not for me but everybody likes something different.

Yep, those are add-on. The only factory hood stripes (besides the factory "specials" like a Beau James or Gentleman Jim, etc) were like this one.

My buddy Matt also has a '79 with the remnants of hood stripes from the factory along with his *cough* awesome patina lol

I've always sorta liked hood stripes on a sporty type pickup. Just the hood though. For some reason tailgate stripes usually bug me.

I like the hood of that truck too, but mostly because the stripes are so wide, it's very much like the old "panel painted" look.
