I don't think the place it exits actually makes much of a difference in the sound it makes. That really depends on the exhaust system itself such as the cats (I've heard hi-flo makes a different sound from "regular") and muffler. If anything, having it on the sides will make it SEEM louder while you're in the cab but only because it's closer to you.

Rear is my opinion. I'm itching for some dual chrome tipped rumblers under Silvy's fat ass.

Rear is nicer for trips. the drone is farthest behind you. Ive thought about changing mine to the sides, but idk if i will. But my vote goes to rear exit.

I think exit location depends on how much you drive it and if you want to hear anything in the cab besides exhaust noise.
Loud exhaust that sounds good for 10 minutes can give you a headache after an hour of driving. Also, do you want to be able to hear the radio without having it full blast?

I love a great sounding engine but as I get older I don't have as much tolerance to hear it full time. At the dragstrip I'm all for loud but if I have to drive any distance just a nice rumble will do for me.

I think rear usually sounds best because you can hear both pipes at the same time, no matter where you are standing, or driving. If you are cruising down the highway at speed with the window down, a side exit pointing at a concrete barrier can be annoying. But if the exhaust is quiet, none of this matters.

Well mine dumps straight out of a pair of Flowmasters right before the axle. Rumbles like crazy but I like it that way lol.

I wanted to add that both my pipes run on the right side and the exhaust turn downs are approx 1 foot apart.
