Bought 83 k5 with 454. Trying to straighten out work PO did

Looking at these lines and am suspicious of couple hose clamps on rubber over metal. Not leaking.

Is this ok or should I do something about it?

Also In search of a dust cover for 700r4. I see a bunch listed but says not for 4X4.

Is the bell housing/starter different on 4x4 where this would matter?

Need to fix that. Those are engine oil cooler lines. If one ruptures it's likely to kill the engine before you have a chance to shut it off. Can't tell from the pictures but if it has factory GM fittings there is an o ring inside that either needs replacement or a new fitting. No way I would drive that until it's fixed properly.

Thank you. Replaced with what. There are metal lines coming off the block that I’m assuming PO cut off whatever fittings used to be on them to put on the rubber hose.

How do I remove the metal lines from the block to replace them? I don’t bolts or anything to remove

Thank you

With aftermarket oil coolers they usually use a different oil filter adapter, and the fittings for the cooler lines are on the adapter. I assumed the factory cooler was plumbed the same way, but maybe it isn't.

This one goes to the motor. Not something off the filter.

Thinking there’s gotta be a way to get them off

If the lines at the block are still good for a few inches, you could flare them use couplers and make new hardlines, just like making transmission or brake lines. You could also use compression unions to join hard lines where the rubber is, your local auto parts store usually carries pre terminated steel lines in various lengths.

I was thinking about doing something like this. The “oil cooler” on there now is a tranny cooler with rubber hose clamped on. It’s in front of the radiator.

I was looking at an actual oil cooler I can run AN line to and then connecting that to the ends of the existing fittings.

This would leave me braided stainless hose I can snake in front of the radiator.

I don’t know how to flare and terminate the existing metal lines but figure it got to be doable?

Mark V GM big block
Those fittings will come out of the block, there’s a bypass spring involved.

They make a 8 an fitting to 1/2 inch compression fitting that will make for a clean install.

Amazon has a bunch of off shore ones available too.

I noticed the one line was twisted and would reduce flow, I would try to correct that also.

That’s my girl. Exactly what I was hoping for. How do you think I can straighten that? Maybe work a dowel inside?

Or maybe the big block gods will look kindly on me and I can find new fittings I can just screw AN hose into.

I’ll just tell myself how awesome this will look to anyone laying under my truck so that I don’t get bumed out at having to do more work.

I’d just plug them… Read the post I quoted.
Do you plan on hauling heavy loads etc…?
Plug ‘em.

I think you're overcomplicating this. Flare the existing metal lines and run fresh metal lines or AN call it a day.

I wouldn't remove a cooler, nice to have such a thing.
