Engine numbers aren’t on decode reference

When I first got my 76 SBSB I attempted to use the number on the front of the passenger head (VD212800, see below) as a startling point. The format of the number (6 digits) ended on the decode list before reaching the numerical value of the engine, then changes to 7 digits. I purchased an inspection camera and only found a singular code with no letters (14016379, see below) on rhe block behind the passenger side head. again nothing even close to matching on the LMC decode sheet. I know the cab was 76 by the VIN, but the bed has late seventies

. I need to nail down the engine year and displacement. Any help would greatly appreciated.

What I found was that it’s a 77-79 350 2 or 4 bolt main. To figure out which type, you’d have to pull the oil pan and look at the main bearing caps. If you had a borescope with a good light, you could probably stick it through the drain hole when you changed the oil.

Yeah but from what I read somewhere, it appears to be a Flint MI built, factory/dealer installed crate - as opposed to an aftermarket.

I'm not sure why GM would have done that. Maybe there had been some kind of recall or warranty action on a certain group engines that they were obligated to remedy? I really don't know.

But what I do know is that it really doesn't matter. A Chevy 350 is a Chevy 350. They are what they are. You can get them to breath better with bigger valves and less restrictive exhaust piping. Maybe bore them out a bit. And if they receive proper and regular PM they will last a really long time - and almost always start up with just the shortest click of the starter.

Dude it's like 8.0:1 compression with 12cc dished pistons and 76cc open chamber heads. "for spec information" it uses a no.2 pencil for a camshaft.
170-180hp is more reasonable..but you can say it's 290 if you wanna...'Merica and stuff!

I don’t have the need to “quote” any horsepower. Just trying to determine what is actually in the truck. I incorrectly assumed it was an aftermarket crate, thus the rating. The important take away for me is that it is most probably a factory crate, a 350 is a 350, and the motor is not running poorly it just has ~190hp. Thanks to all.
