Engine Noise - Any ideas?

Who made those rockers? Looks like the metal is junk. I'd replace with something better.

Do those rockers have a name on them? Could have been adjusted to tight. Those solid lifters don't give any. That's a pretty large lift for a small block. Need to have good components. I personally use compitition cam valve train components. That push rod is probably Ok seeing where the rocker broke. Valve clearance is a must with solid or solid roller lifters.

If the noise is coming from the upper part of the motor I would suggest rocker arm pushrod if the noise is coming from the lower part of the motor I would suggest it to be a wrist pin from your connecting rods

Aluminum rocker arms can fail more than steel or chromoly I would get just one and check the pushrod I think some valve lash issue could've caused your broken rocker arm

I am going to order a whole set of replacement rockers soon, but I'm bewildered by the variety. I know I need 7/16" stud, 1.5 ratio (1.52, any difference?), and they need to work with center bolt valve covers/vortec heads. I was about to order some Comp Cams 1804 or 1604 s, but started to read more about compatibility issues with center bolt valve covers and balked. Anyone have any experience or advice on this? I don't want to pay good money for more problems, so I'm willing to fork over the extra bucks if a particular rocker set will be more trouble-free.

Looks like a Harland Sharpe, but there is no type of identification on it.

You will probably need self-aligning rockers with those heahs. Comp should have them. 1.52 will work. There is a process for checking valve geometry on comps web site. The reason I mention this is because you mentioned having non standard pushrods.

Yes, they are Vortecs. I don't know who modified them, so I can't get any details on the mods other than visually. It has screw in studs and guide plates for the rods. 2 springs on each valve. The previous owner claimed they were ported, but that could mean just about anything.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea....can't hurt. Something broke that rocker.

That's what I was thinking, I've used them before and never seen any markings on them..

I just have to add most quality parts companys put their names on stuff, on the other side of that coin there are companies that don't and those company's either arent to proud of what they make,and or if they did nobody would buy it if it was....just my .02
