He's wrong. They didn't start doing that til much later on so not all are marked that easy. Usually I find the blocks that are marked with those numbers, they're later engines and not the desirable ones. But yeah, some can be identified that way.

That's a good one to have. That's one that's hard to kill. Even with a 2 bolt, so long as you've balanced it right, you can spin that bitch 8000 rpm and it hold together. Ask me how I know !!! Those small journal engines all came with forged cranks. Not some or most, but ALL small journal engines, 265, 283 and 327's up to 1967 were forged cranks.

Only ones ive seen stamped 5.7 or 5.0 that easy are the gmt 400's
