Anyone know where to get an Emissions label for a 1985 GMC Sierra? It needs to look like this one from my 84 but for an 85

I'm not sure about your truck, but I know on my 85 K30 runs 1984 emissions and emissions tags. It has an 11/84 production date. 1/1/85 new Federal emissions started. Does you truck have a single or dual smog pump? Dual is the post 1/1/85 emissions.

I confirmed through the sticker's part number that this was the correct label for my truck.

Thanks, I should've mentioned that it was originally a 305 federal emissions label but needs to be smogged in CA now.

Doesnt CA have to recognize federal emissions if the truck wasnt sold in CA? Like, if your truck meets its emissions for federal level, can they deny you registration? I dont think it makes sense they could deny any car not-sold in the state registration, that seems like a too big of a restriction

Unfortunately, if you are missing that Federal tag, California will require you to meet California emissions equipment requirements for that year. Don't get me started on the laws here. Total retards in charge.

@LS1K501 maybe if you got the build sheet from the GM Heritage Center it would show the truck was originally delivered in another state and the SPID sheet would show Federal emissions. I know my truck specifically says California emissions on mine.

I would verify that solution would work through the Smog Referee first. If so, they can then provide a tag for future smogs that proves it meets Federal standards.

Doesnt your emissions tag have to match your vin tho? If they are gonna be commies like that, I dont see them making exceptions

It does match the VIN. My engine code is W which is part of the VIN. The red box is mine. CK3 stands for 2 & 4WD 30 series. The part number on my emissions tag corresponds to this. It threw me off for a while after I bought the truck until I found this page and learned emissions standards changed mid-year. The code below mine is for trucks made after 1/1/85 and would have 2 smog pumps and the stainless exhaust manifolds. The Federal tag for a CK3 truck build prior to 1/1/85 would be 3 above the red box.

@LS1K501 the second picture is the full page picture. I noticed it has some K1 codes for a 305 at the bottom. I don't know if your truck is 2 or 4WD, but this page will give you a starting point. This is the 9/90 update for reference GM trucks section 8-80. If not on this page it should be one before or one after.

Great info, according to the VIN it's a four-wheel drive light-duty truck with engine code H 305 with federal emissions. What I'm trying to do is put my 84 K5 blazer LS9 350 California emissions engine and computer into the 85 and find a emissions label that will match the engine emission controls and not be far from the VIN of the 85.

What is the production date of the’85? If it’s an early model ‘85 maybe it had the’84 emissions like mine.

Since California is more stringent,
Maybe the referee would let it pass.

Have they changes how they do the smog checks in Cali again? I was born and raised out in the desert north of LA and did a lot of tuner and high performance stuff in the late 90's to early 2000's... we used to just have a few shops that you could go to that would never pop the hood. They were a little more expensive for a "smog check", but I had a highly modified 2004 Dodge Neon SRT-4 that was pushing about 490hp to the wheels and no where near stock looking and I never had any problems finding a place to sign it off. I haven't had to mess with it since I moved out of the state, but there has to still be some places like that around. They would connect the computer and do the sniffer test, but never pop the hood. As long as the emissions levels met the requirements and your computer was happy you were good to go.

The production date is 3/85, the referee may be the best way to go if I can't find a suitable emissions label. There is no emissions label currently, this is probably the one it's supposed to have.

I've never seen 2 air pumps on an engine....I'll be looking into that....take it to the referee...they will make sure you have everything where it goes...no more problems at the smog shop...their not out to screw you...and they are the final word

Late 85 and all 86 should have them. Big and small block had OEM stainless exhaust manifolds.
