It works - but only from the front switch.

Years ago I fixed the cable drive and it will NEVER fail again - I swear! The fix is IN!

But the key switch doesn't work - and frankly, I never even noticed if it is accessible or not with the window UP.

Any clues as to why the keyswitch failed - are they available - do the wires rot off?

Whazzup?

In the harness back to the tailgate, there's an UP wire, a DOWN wire and also a power wire that supplies 12v to the key switch. Check for power at that wire. It's probably corroded at the connector under the rear of the body.

Okay.

I'll be back in town on Monday...I'm in the woods cutting firewook for a few days.

There is a spray can product named DeOxit that you can used to clean oxidation and corrosion off the electrical connectors. It will help make better electrical contact at the old connectors. I used to buy it at Radio Shack (now gone), but I’m sure other places sell it.

I'm going to open the panel again - I hate to open that panel --- and this time I'll look for that switch.

The week is early and my chores are close to caught-up on - so I might get time to do it.

I wish the switch was remote mounted off to the side with a relay rod to the center for the keylock hole.

Honestly --- this rear window regulator is the dumbest design I've ever seen - but I think I cured it of destroying cables once and for all.

so....lil derail, but who's to say you can't use that same mechanism for a rear CAB window? PM me and I'll stick a post up about it if needed to carry over there.

just a thought when I read the post, my apologies to OP.

It's most likely a poor connection at the tailgate, the two pin connector comes from the dash switch then there's a single power wire that feeds the tailgate key switch
