I got a hold of this intake for $50 from a coworker, it had clear powder coating on it that had turned brown and looked to be melted or been super hot enough to turn it dark brown. Anyhow I fixed that and am wanting to use it but I have a few questions about what carb to intake gasket I need and if I need an adapter plate etc. Also I am wanting to use new intake bolts and want to use the Alan headed bolts or the ones that have the 10/12 pt head on them. Anyone do something similar? Any other things I might need like different kick down cable mount, and such?

I'm pretty sure I have the same intake on mine.

I ~think~ it can fit both a spreadbore AND a squarebore carb, so if you want to run either Q-jet or Holley, you can.

I just used factory Q-jet gaskets, no adapter. Been running 3 years now, no problem.

Yep, it takes both types got one on my truck with a square bore carb.. You can use any bolts you want just make sure they're not too long so they don't bottom out before the intake is tight.

+1

Yeah, I got my intake for free, because I had to TIG closed and re-drill and tap two holes from bolts that were too long.

Anyone have a part number for a base gasket? I'm sure I could find one when I take the carb off but I'd rather get the stuff before I tear it all apart

I made an 1/8" plate for mine didn't think just a gasket would work but I guess it does??, just ask for Q-Jet base gasket, you won't find a number on the gasket.

X2 on the correct length intake bolts. There are a few positions where a too long bolt will hit a pushrod. I always use the "right stuff" brand sealer on the bolt threads to keep oil and coolant from wicking up the threads.

New question about the choke tube plate on this 2101 edelbrock intake. Do I have to drill out a hole in the dimpled part, or get a choke tube for this intake, or do I just cut a tube up to fit?
Also trying to get new bolts for the water neck thermostat housing, what size are they etc?

I'm not sure about the choke plate as I have always had electric choke. I know the thermostat housing bolts are 3/8"x16 and the length should be around 1" to 1-1/4" depends if you have any brackets to go through.

I used my factory hot air choke bits on mine. How is your choke activated?

Mine has the hot choke with the metaltube, but my intake has a hole it fits into. This new intake has the plate I posted a pic of but no hole just that dimple, wondering if it had to be drilled out, I know I can use an elctric choke but I don't want to mess with it!

I like the 12pt socket head idea better than the allen head bolt idea myself.

I'm assuming you're asking about gasket and adapter for using a Qjet? For that intake, I do believe it's turn key. Use your same gasket, no adpater, and your detent cable if a Th350 or TV cable if 700r4 should all be the same too.

I thought the plate on the intake was just a blanking plate. The factory hot air tube fit right in its place.

An Edlebrock carb will fit OK with just a gasket, but I would use a phenolic spacer like this to keep the fuel cooler. This one is 5/16" thick, but you can go taller.

If you use a Holley, the secondary portion of the carb may not seal well. Use this to fix that problem. It's a plated metal shim with two gaskets.

I like stainless ARP 12-point bolts. Very easy to get a wrench on, and they look good forever. I used some on a tailgate in 1993 and they still look like new.
