I think timing is at 10 but I can’t remember where 0 is on my timing tab, there’s two big v and a tube, using the tube as 0 it’s around 10/11 using a dial timing light.

Got timing set at what should b10° advanced but when I plugged back in vac advance the truck runs worse, at idle at least. Also since I had the truck running for a while at operating temp the radiator decided to leak so now gotta replace that as well, might as well do rad hoses and thermostat while I’m there because the upper radiator hose feels super soft and it got hot hot to the touch.
the hose should get hot but if you can easily deform it then yeah replace

This is example of old squishy hose, also there is that throttle plate thing I mentioned to check on the exhaust manifold at one point ,I forget if you did but I just noticed its on display here lol

My manifolds do not have that butterfly plate, but it is a massive leak at that point, it needs a donut I assume. And my middle ports on the passenger side exhaust leak.

Does your timing tab look like this? if it is, the center notch at the center of the V where they meet is 0

If the ports on the exhaust manifold leak that could be a big affect on your engine running right there because you have hot engine bay conditions that your air cleaner above the carb sucks in , in essence egr, but not regulated, and unknown how much or how much affect, and your exhaust system on that side is going to be acting different, i dont know how much it can affect making it rich or not but it may be worth fixing that as soon as can. Is it loose bolt? If its loose bolt, try tightening. if it needs a gasket, then you have both to do at that time.

Bolts are tight gasket is new, I’m going to remove it again and clean it better and re assemble. Also truck has egr deleted. I need to find another timing light after I figure out what 0 actually is. No the timing tab is at 12’ o clock position and it has a big groove and I’d say a medium groove and a tube on the far right. I used the tube as 0

Your manifold may be warped. did you use tht copper gasket sealant stuff I hear that makes good exhaust gasket seals(maybe it was copper gasket maker?)

by egr I meant exhaust gases being sucked into your intake by being near the center of the engine and coming out under pressure from your exhaust. EGR if the filter is a circular open one like mine(mine came with carb or was just cheap toss in, plus I didnt have a good one to use in its place yet)

I am going to get a spacer and use a factory type air cleaner and replace the plastic duct to the core support as to fix the "hot air intake"as it is now

I dont know how much the exhaust gases can possibly be drawn in to the intake but i wouldnt discount its affects while not moving and the hood especially being closed. but i have no science numbers to say how much lol

Nope just regular gaskets, but I also didn’t completely remove the manifolds last time.. just removed bolts and scraped some and put bolts through dropped gasket down and tightened.

sounds like your cheating is why its leaking and/or the donut fitting isnt cooperating lol. I would be pissing in the wind to try and fix my exhaust leaks, it just rather needs a set of matching manifolds/headers and then new pipe all way back. i have a good chunk of half of the dual exhaust it used to have, so i may get creative eventually.

I got the drivers side good, I took it apart again and cleaned it better but passenger side I didn’t figure was much reason messing with until I had the donut that goes between the manifold and exhaust pipe. What’s the size I need for that? I don’t know how to measure it as I’ve never done it.

It’s stock manifold as far as I know and 2” exhaust pipe, so in assumption, I’d say 2” donut but I guess it could be a gasket? No telling it’s missing something tho

I believe the flange has three bolts, on my 87 there’s like springs and bolts.. confusing stuff for someone that doesn’t do anything regarding exhaust

did you watch the edelbrock video on the 1405-1406 about setting the idle and fuel
